CNN pulls cameras from Palin's photo op
« on: September 23, 2008, 09:01:16 AM »
Yahoo
NEW YORK - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who has not held a press conference in nearly four weeks of campaigning, on Tuesday banned reporters from her first meetings with world leaders, allowing access only to photographers and a television crew.

CNN, which was providing the television coverage for news organizations, decided to pull its TV crew, effectively denying Palin the high visibility she had sought.

As long as Fox covers it, the word will get out.

Yeah, but this is pretty big.  If CNN and the repub ticket openly have a beef, that's something noteworthy.  Palin's been a candidate for 4 weeks and hasn't held a single press conference.  She's given 2 very carefully controlled interviews - one which was heavily criticized for "I can see Russia form my house" and "Bush doctrine... in what respect charlie?"  The other was predictably friendly with Hannity.

Sounds like the networks are going to stop letting Palin/Mccain dictate what we see of her.  Obama/Biden may suck, sure, but they are answering questions every day for anyone who will listen.  Reporters on Palin's plane aren't allowed to ask her Qs.  Think about that.  You get 5 or 6 gafffes from Obama and Mccain and Biden, and they've been touring for 20 months being asked "gotcha" questions nonstop.  Palin's had that many gaffes in about 120 minutes of interviews.

Smart of McCain to keep her away from press - IF he is worried she'll be exposed as unprepared.  If he's not, well it seems he's getting major media backlash as a result of hiding her.

Has ANY Vp candidate i history been this sheltered?  Do we all realize that if mcCain gets sick in office and she takes over, this shielding will no longer be there?  Do we want her first press conference to be in response to Russia moving back into cuba or Iran setting off nuke tests?

None.  no liberal media.  Liberals in the media...tons of them.  Probably 2 to 1.  wonder why that is?

Why is this happening with Palin?  Because the erection over her is wearing off.

Let me guess, she'll surround herself with topshelf people?

My god man, Bush tried that same bullshit reasoning when he ran for president (don't worry if he's an imbecile, he has experienced people around him) and you see where that got us?

How many times are you going to fall for that line?

Not a big surprize. Shit, they need to hide her so she doesn't say anything stupid (notice how when she said let's play stump the candidate & then McCain quickly took over). I listened to the Fox interview with her & it was basically them tossing her Nerf Ball questions & her using a lot of jargon & talking in circles to sound smart (IMO). I wasn't very impressed & left with an even worse impression of her then I already had.

Obama is not a blank slate like Bush or Palin.

She's not a VP, she's a candidate.....so nyah nyah nyah!

I'm certainly glad I can do my part in elevating the discourse here.

Yeah because nbc jus slams Obama with hardball questions. We will see when the debates begin.

the liberal media... they're all out to get you, right?

What about in 2003, when they couldn't slurp dubya enough in supporting this war.  What about after 911, when they were eating out of his hands?

So they were fair then, and unfair now?  Or you agreed with them then, but not now?

that Fox/Palin "interview" was more of an infomercial than an interview. Someone post the awesome clip John Stewart did on it...

Didn't Obama "ban" cameras and reporters from meetings during his European campaign tour?

JUST ADMIT IT ALREADY SHE IS A JOKE YOU KNOW IT AS WELL AS ANYONE

When are u Dems going to admit that Obama is woefully unprepared to tie his shoes let alone run this country. When are u going to admit that he can't go anywhere without his nokkie/telepromter attached to his shirt with a safety pin. When are u going to realize his canned hope and change mantra doesn't mean shit and this guy is an empty suit with alot of bs rethoric.

UPDATE: The McCain campaign gave in and agreed to let a CNN producer into the UN meetings.

The New York Times adds that reporters were let in for the preliminary part of Palin's meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Here's what they got:

When Gov. Sarah Palin sat down with President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan on Tuesday afternoon, the polite preliminaries to their conversation centered around children, as Mr. Karzai spoke of the birth of his first child last year.

"What is his name?" Ms. Palin was heard to ask, as she met with Mr. Karzai in the suite of a midtown hotel, according to a pool report.

"Mirwais," Mr. Karzai replied. "Mirwais, which means, 'The Light of the House.'"

"Oh nice," Palin responded.

"He is the only one we have," Mr. Karzai said.

Then the pool of journalists was escorted out, and the meeting began.

Ah no they wanted to be there, McCain's guys didn't. The media doesn't have a god given right to coverage. Obama had limited coverage of events when he went overseas. But that was Obama, and thats ok right?
