No one better sleep on the Redskins.

Jason Campbell is starting to find his rhythm in Zorn's offense.

Insanely tough division this year.

Dallas, Philly and the Giants all look very good, although I will temper my enthusiasm for the Giants until they start playing real teams.

ESPN power rankings.

2008 Power Rankings: Week 4
    RK (LW)   TEAM   REC   COMMENT
1 (1)   Cowboys   3-0-0   Two big NFC wins in a row put the Cowboys in the driver's seat. Rivalry game against the Redskins looms. (MM)
2 (3)   Giants   3-0-0   I have them pretty much even with the Eagles, but ties aren't allowed. Close call against Bengals will help in long run. (MM)
3 (5)   Eagles   2-1-0   They put up points against a solid Cowboys defense and then used a fierce pass rush to slow down the Steelers. We need to see how Brian Westbrook responds to the ankle injury. (MM)

BOOM.

The NFC South isn't that far behind the NFC East.

Compare the two divisions, since 2002.

NFC title appearances

NFC East - 4: 2002-2004 (Eagles); 2007 (Giants).

NFC South - 5: 2002 (Bucs); 2003, 2005 (Panthers); 2004 (Falcons); 2006 (Saints).

NFC Titles

NFC East - 2: 2004 (Eagles); 2007 (Giants)

NFC South - 2: 2002 (Bucs); 2003 (Panthers)

Super Bowl wins

NFC East - 1: 2007 (Giants)

NFC South - 1: 2002 (Bucs)

Head-to-head Playoff wins

NFC South - 5, NFC East - 4.

2002: Eagles def. Falcons
2002: Bucs def. Eagles
2003: Panthers def. Cowboys
2003: Panthers def. Eagles
2004: Eagles def. Falcons
2005: Redskins def. Bucs
2005: Panthers def. Giants
2006: Saints def. Eagles
2007: Giants def. Bucs

Records this season (thus far)

NFC East:
Cowboys 3-0
Giants 3-0
Redskins 2-1
Eagles 2-1

NFC South:
Falcons 2-1
Panthers 2-1
Bucs 2-1
Saints 1-2

We could see some more matchups in the playoffs.

Wouldn't be surprised to see all of the NFC East in the playoffs.

That's not possible. There are only two wildcard spots.

MCKWAY- let's not lose all your credibility on this board with those silly statements....

The NFC east is the "Black and Blue" division of  the NFL, every game will be a slugfest, when you try to bring in the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints (terrible defense) and compare them to the Cowboys, Eagles, Giants and Redskins, you lose my respect

For those of us over 35, we can remember what a gauntlet the old NFC East was (even the St. Louis Cardinals had some great years in the mid 70's...10-4 in 1974, 11-3 in 1975, and in 1976, they became the first team in NFC history to go 10-4 and not make the playoffs).

In 1998, the Cowboys became the first team to finish 8-0 in the NFC East...this was the first year that the division wasn't good (since Dallas was 2-6 against the rest of the league)...consider that from 1970-1997, Dallas went to 8 Super Bowls (5-3), Washington went to 5 (3-2), NY Giants 2 (2-0), and Philadelphia 1 (0-1)...none of those teams went undefeated in the division.  It truly was the toughest division in football over that time.

Terrible defense?  I agree with you that the Saints defense is lousy. HOWEVER, didn't the Cowboys and Eagles surrender a ton of points to each other, not too long ago?

The success that each division has had so far is nearly a mirror image of the other. Again, I invite you to compare the playoff matchups that these two divisions have had. The NRC title game has had the NFC South or the NFC East champs EVERY YEAR. In fact, for three straight years, it's been the NFC East Champions vs. the NFC South Champions. Two of those three times, the NFC South team WON the Halas trophy (Bucs, 2002; Panthers 2003), with the NFC East Champs (Eagles, 2002-2004) having home-field advantage.

What's silly about that? Again, it's 5-4 with regards to playoff matches head-to-head, and NFC title appearances.

Since I'm over 35 (barely), I remember that gauntlet as well. The NFC East has a much longer history. The NFC South was formed in 2002 and the teams in the South are (relatively speaking) much younger than those in the East, in particular the Panthers (1995) and the Bucs (1976).

Furthermore, the Falcons, Saints, and Panthers were in the NFC West, while the Bucs were in the NFC Central.

I do remember 1998. The Cowobys ran the table in the division, but they lost to the Cardinals in the playoffs; just as they swept the Giants last year but lost to those Giants in the post-season

More proof, that the NFC East is the best division in football... The number 1 ranked team by ESPN (Dallas Cowboys) just loses to the Washington Redskins.

Again, the "black and blue" divison of the NFL, expect alot more of these games to come out of the East

I don't know what it is about Tony Romo.... Seven straight games with an interception....

I look up with a few minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and he still has 265 yards passing, and all along I am thinking he has had a shitty game.

It just wasn't the Cowboys night, missed calls....like the face mask on Pac-Man, a really, really bad missed false start call which led to a few points by the Redskins, I think everyone in the stands noticed but the refereeing has been god-awful this year, drops by Owens and Crayton, Romo was off on some throws.. Terrance Newmans 2 fuck ups (once biting on the stop-and-go route which led to a long throw.... and secondly on the goal-line defense where he slipped while going in motion before the snap which led to an easy touchdown)

That bite was partially due to a Dallas defender missing a sack. Campbell escaped the rush and heaved the ball downfield. That ball was underthrown; otherwide that would have been a TD.

What did I say at the beginning of this thread??

Nobody better sleep on the Redskins! Campbell has really picked up Zorn's offense in a short amount of time. Amazing that they won with 2 defensive starters out with injury. AND Santana Moss didn't even record a catch against Philly.

They have a chance to go 7-1 with their next three games.....Rams and Browns at home with Detroit on the road.
