Biden exposed: Book claims veep enjoys swimming in the nude
Published August 01, 2014
FoxNews.com

It's Biden in the buff.

A forthcoming book that claims to give a behind-the-scenes look at the people the Secret Service protects reportedly airs some tantalizing details about Vice President Biden's swimming habits.

According to a New York Daily News account of the book, Secret Service agents say Biden likes to swim nude -- to the chagrin of some in his detail.

"Agents say that, whether at the vice president's residence or at his home in Delaware, Biden has a habit of swimming in his pool nude," journalist and author Ronald Kessler reportedly writes in "The First Family Detail," due to come out next week. "Female Secret Service agents find that offensive."

Scandalous tidbits from the book -- including about the Clintons -- have been dripping out over the past several weeks, in the lead-up to the release. According to the Daily News, Biden's skinny-dipping isn't the only thing agents complain about.

They also reportedly worry that the vice president puts too many restrictions on his detail when he's in Delaware, keeping them from interfering with his neighbors. One unnamed agent reportedly voiced security concerns about this practice.

Kessler claimed that the Biden detail is considered the second-worst job in the Secret Service, next to the Hillary Clinton detail.

Kessler used to work for The Washington Post, and later went to work for the conservative site Newsmax. He has written extensively about the Secret Service, and broke the story in 2012 about the prostitution scandal involving agents during a presidential visit to Colombia.

His books, though, have been trashed by Democrats for their sometimes-sensational elements, attributed to anonymous sources.

Joe Biden Apologizes For 'Poor Choice Of Words' After Making Reference To 'Shylocks'
HUNTER WALKER
SEP. 17, 2014

Vice President Joe Biden issued a statement to Business Insider on Wednesday apologizing for his "poor choice" of words after a comment he made about "shylocks" drew criticism from Anti-Defamation League National Director Abraham Foxman.

Foxman noted the expression "shylocks" has roots in "the medieval stereotype about Jews and remains an offensive characterization to this day." At the same time, Foxman also complimented the vice president as "friendly to the Jewish community" and an "open and tolerant individual."

In his statement, Biden said Foxman was "correct" in his assessment.

“Abe Foxman has been a friend and advisor of mine for a long time. He’s correct, it was a poor choice of words, particularly as he said coming from ‘someone as friendly to the Jewish community and open and tolerant an individual as is Vice President Joe Biden.’ He’s right,” Biden said.

Biden made the remark during a speech to the Legal Services Corporation on Tuesday in which he criticized those who would take advantage of military service members with "bad loans" as "Shylocks who took advantage of these women and men while overseas."

Biden continues to apologize; first Turkey, now UAE
BY ROY GUTMAN
McClatchy Foreign Staff
October 5, 2014

ISTANBUL — Vice President Joe Biden apologized to the United Arab Emirates Sunday for charging that the oil-rich ally had been supporting al Qaida and other jihadi groups in Syria's internal war, his second apology in as many days to a key participant in the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State extremists.

The White House said Biden telephoned Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi to say that his recent remarks “regarding the early stages” of the conflict in Syria “were not meant to imply that the Emirates had facilitated or supported” the Islamic State, al Qaida or other extremist groups in Syria.

But his apology, one day after expressing similar regrets to Turkey, left open whether the Emirates had supported the rise of al Qaida during the early stages of the war in Syria.

Biden was answering questions at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Thursday when he veered off the official talking points to declare, “Our allies in the region were our largest problem” in preventing the spread of al Qaida in Syria.

“The Saudis, the Emiratis; what were they doing?” he said. “They were so determined to take down (Syrian President Bashar) Assad and have a proxy Sunni-Shia war, they poured hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad. Except that the people who were being supplied were (Jabhat) al Nusra and al Qaida, and the extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world.”

The UAE foreign minister, Anwar Gargash, Sunday demanded a formal clarification, saying that Biden’s remarks were “far from the truth” and gave a “negative and inaccurate impression.” The UAE’s approach to counter-terrorism “recognizes the extent of the danger posed by terrorism to the region and to its people,” he said

Biden raised ire in Turkey by quoting from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during their meeting during the U.N. General Assembly.

“President Erdogan told me, ‘You were right. We let too many people through. So we’re trying to seal the border,’” Biden quoted him as saying.

Erdogan retorted that Turkey had not provided “even the smallest amount of support” to any terrorist organization. As for his reputed confession, he said: “I never admitted any mistake, nor did we tell them that they 'were right' during my visit to the U.S.” And he said if Biden didn’t apologize, “then he will be history for me.”

In his apology to Erdogan, as relayed by the White House, the vice president did not retract the quotation he attributed to the Turkish leader. Instead, he “apologized for any implication that Turkey or other Allies and partners in the region had intentionally supplied or facilitated the growth of ISIL or other violent extremists in Syria.”

ISIL is one of several acronyms used to identify the group known as the Islamic State.

The other two countries Biden named were Saudi Arabia, which is about to host the U.S.-funded training of thousands of Syrian rebel fighters, and Qatar, which houses a covert CIA training facility for Syrian rebels.

Biden said Saudi Arabia “has stopped the funding” going to extremists in Syria, and the Qataris “have cut off their support for the most extreme elements of the terrorist organizations.” Neither country has publicly demanded an apology so far.

Although senior U.S. officials have hinted that at least one Gulf country had been supporting Jabhat al Nusra, the Al Qaida-backed militia in Syria, no one had named the countries in a public forum until Biden. His remarks raised a number of questions: what form did the aid take, how long did it continue and what impact did it have on fighting on the ground?

Biden also took aim at Saudi Arabia’s human rights record. He compared the collaboration with Riyadh to World War II, when the United States and Britain made common cause with the Soviet Union under dictator Joseph Stalin. “We knew Stalin was no-good SOB from the beginning,“ Biden said, answering a student’s question about Saudi human rights practices. “But there is a thing called self-interest.”

He said the U.S. criticized the Saudi practice of beheading criminals and not granting equality to women.

“We have not remained silent with Saudi Arabia,” he said. ”I have certainly not been silent with Saudi Arabia.”

Nine Apologies Biden Owes Americans
by KEITH KOFFLER on OCTOBER 6, 2014

In recent days, Vice President Biden has issued apologies to the no doubt unimpeachably honorable and suitably aggrieved leaders of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates for insulting them by saying they had supported Islamists.

While Biden expressing serial regrets, I wonder, what if the thought occurred to him to apologize to the American people? Not for silly gaffes or little blunders, but for professional-league, first-class outrages that are unacceptable coming from a vice president, even this one.

He might say . . .

1. I am sorry for telling an audience of African Americans during the campaign that Mitt Romney was “going to put you all back in chains.”

2. I am sorry for mocking Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan during the debate with constant, staged, laughter. Not only was the giggling insulting, nasty and inappropriate, it was undignified for a vice president and even scarily odd.

3. I am sorry for opposing the special forces raid that took out Osama Bin Laden. Thank God the president didn’t take my advice.

4. I am sorry for revealing that the Navy SEALs killed Bin Laden.

5. I am sorry for making an adjusted gross income of $385,072 in 2012 and giving only 1.9 percent of it to charity, a percentage similar to the minuscule amounts I had given in the past.

6. I am sorry for telling Americans to walk out on their balconies and fire a double barrel shotgun into the air to scare off a potential intruder. It’s a felony in many states and someone was actually arrested for taking my advice.

7. I am sorry for comparing Republicans during the 2012 campaign to the Know Nothing Party, a xenophobic and sometimes violently anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant movement that existed during the 1850s.

8. I am sorry for excusing the Chinese for their barbaric “one child policy,” which is not only a oppressive, totalitarian measure but one that has resulted in the death of little girls.

9. I am sorry for saying in 2010 that President Obama’s Iraq policy could go down as one of Obama’s “great achievements.” It wasn’t his achievement, it was Bush’s, and he was actually in the process of screwing it up.

VP Joe Biden Has Factual Revelation and Joins Middle Class Bashing of Obama
BY MICHAEL HAUSAM (2 DAYS AGO) | EDITOR'S CHOICE, NATION, POLITICS

In Iowa, during a stump speech for behind-in-the-polls Democrat Senate candidate Bruce Braley, Vice President Joe Biden apparently neglected to recall who has been in charge of the country for the last six years.

The takeaway:

According to all the statistics, all the economic policy institutes, and all these groups that are outside experts in the economy, the gross domestic product means the nation grew over the last ten years by over 25 percent, and productivity went up over 30 percent.

But middle class wages went up by only 14 cents. Hear me? 14 cents. You know it. You don’t have to know the number, but you know. The middle class has been left behind.
Indeed.

Under this President, income inequality has actually increased. The overwhelming majority of income gains under Obama have been to the top 1% of earners. And this is despite an almost constant drumbeat from the administration against income inequality.

Furthermore, even as he touts the GDP gain of 25% over the last ten years, that averages a measly 2.5% per year. That’s just barely above the population growth rate and certainly not a sign of success. For example, under Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, GDP growth averaged 3.8%.

The middle class has certainly been left behind. Now, Middle Class Joe, show us what you can do about it.

Liberal Writer: Gaffe-Prone Joe Biden Seems to Have Been ‘Made in a Lab By the Editors of The Onion’
By Tom Johnson | January 11, 2015

Political partisans tend to downplay stumbles and goofs by their allies, so lefty writer Alana Levinson deserves credit for her Thursday column at Talking Points Memo in which she went after Vice President Joe Biden for many of his gaffes, especially "lecherous" comments that fit "the classic definition of sexual harassment."

Levinson admitted that liberals generally overlook Biden’s boo-boos because “we like his politics. In terms of women’s issues, he’s got the gold stars.” She acknowledged her reservations about “aligning myself with conservatives who love crying ‘double standard’ on issues like this, not because they actually care about feminism, but to push their liberal media bias agenda…But not wanting to cede a point to the right doesn’t justify ignoring questionable behavior.”

From Levinson’s piece, headlined “Why Does Creepy Uncle Joe Biden Get a Pass From Liberals?” (bolding added):

A swearing-in featuring Joe Biden is gaffe-porn…But are these really just “aw, shucks, dad” moments, another blunder we have come to expect from Uncle Joe? Or is it…kinda creepy? And why does he get a pass from progressives?...

…It was clear from [the day Obama chose Biden as the VP nominee] that Biden’s personality would be a gift to American pop culture. And the gift would just keep on giving:..

…Basically, he was man-made in a lab by the editors of The Onion...

…[At the 2013 Senate swearing-in, Biden] told a senator's mom she was beautiful; he jokingly instructed Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s family to "spread your legs, you're gonna be frisked!” It was awe-inspiring to see a politician so seemingly unaware of cultural norms.

At this year’s swearing-in, of course Biden was out in all his glory. On Tuesday, I wrote about Maggie, the young daughter of Sen. Chris Coons who rejected Biden’s whispers and kiss, complete with an affectionate headline. That wasn’t the only cringeworthy moment of the night. When introduced to Sen. Orrin Hatch's granddaughter, Biden joked: “I hope you have a big fence around the house!”…

…What would I say if a Republican did the same thing? I’m pretty sure that the kind of “uncle” he is would change from endearing to lecherous.

Now I'm wondering whether I'm a "bad liberal" to call him out. That means aligning myself with conservatives who love crying “double standard” on issues like this, not because they actually care about feminism, but to push their liberal media bias agenda.

But not wanting to cede a point to the right doesn’t justify ignoring questionable behavior…As early as 2007, when [Biden] called Obama “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," or said "you cannot go to a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent,” we have forgiven him. We offer arguments like: That’s just good ol’ Joe. He doesn’t get it. He’s of a different generation.

Liberals do this because we like his politics. In terms of women’s issues, he’s got the gold stars…

He’s pro-choice and as a senator in 1990, he introduced the Violence Against Women Act…

…The kind of sexism that Biden exhibits is perhaps the most pernicious kind, because it’s so easily waved away. It’s the classic definition of sexual harassment, the kind that most women tolerate on a daily basis from coworkers or friends...

…[B ]eing a public figure who supports women means more than just supporting political causes. It also means treating them with respect, especially in public. If progressives are really committed to combating sexism, they have to be indiscriminate about calling it out—even if it means indicting one of their own.

it's 2015.   Generation selfie.  the more shit a candidate says about "i'd hit that", the more idiots will support it.  Remember all the immature, generation selfie shit that obama used in 2008?

it's not about class, statesmanship, being safe, or anything like that anymore.  In 2016, it'll be a brash rock star repub knocking the old horse hilary off, or it'll be "give no fcks" biden challenging her in the primaries strong.

honestly, we're all over 30, college educated people that follow politics here.  The average idiot doesn't vote on GDP, they vote on which candidate they'd rather take selfies and smoke pot with.

BIDEN: I ACTUALLY THINK CONGRESS IS AN EQUAL BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT
by PAM KEY10 Feb 2015

Tuesday, during an event Vice President Joe Biden hosted for lawmakers and disability advocates who helped pass the ABLE Act, he said, “I actually think it’s [Congress] an equal branch of government.”

Presumably referencing complaints about President Barack Obama’s executive branch overreach the vice president joked, “I served  the Congress for 36 years and as they know, I actually think it’s an equal branch of government, because that’s where I come from and it is.”

Biden searches for his ‘old butt buddy’ in Iowa
Published February 13, 2015
FoxNews.com

Vice President Biden keeps outdoing himself.

The veep -- renowned for two things: his love of Amtrak and his conspicuous lack of a filter -- appeared to give a shout-out on Thursday to his old "butt buddy."

He spoke in Iowa, where his visit stirred a modest amount of speculation about a possible 2016 run -- despite having little campaign infrastructure in place. But even if he runs, he reminded the audience he's still the same Joe as he wondered aloud where an old friend, and former Iowa congressman, was.

Roll the tape:

"And Neal Smith, an old butt buddy, are you here Neal?" Biden said. "Neal, I miss you, man. I miss you."

Some reports have speculated that Biden, who overcame a stutter when he was young, simply stumbled over his words.

But "butt buddy" is an actual phrase that can be used as a term for two people who are just very close friends -- at least, according to Urban Dictionary.

Urban Dictionary lists several alternative definitions.

Biden places hands on shoulders of defense secretary's wife in latest gaffe
Published February 17, 2015
FoxNews.com

Feb. 17, 2015: Vice President Joe Biden talks with Stephanie Carter, wife of incoming Defense Secretary Ash Carter during Carter's swearing in ceremony in the Roosevelt Room of the White House in Washington. (AP)

It was just another example of Vice President Biden grabbing headlines in a feel-good moment.

What began as a routine swearing-in ceremony for new Defense Secretary Ashton Carter on Tuesday morphed into a social media celebration when Biden awkwardly placed his hands upon Carter's wife, Stephanie.

As Carter began speaking, Biden beckoned Stephanie Carter from across the room, then put both hands on her shoulders. They lingered there for roughly 20 seconds until Biden leaned in and whispered in her ear.

Soon after, Ashton Carter reached over to place his right hand on Stephanie's shoulder.

Then, a few hours later, Biden was discussing Minneapolis' large Somali community and noted his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, also has a large Somali presence. Biden said he has great relations with them "because an awful lot of them are driving cabs."

Both incidents sparked prompt and voluminous reactions on social media.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Biden Stuns Summit With Remarks About Somali Cab Drivers
Wednesday, 18 Feb 2015
By John Blosser

Vice President Joe Biden stunned attendants at a three-day White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism Tuesday with his puzzling comments about Somali cab drivers.

Speaking before representatives of about 60 countries attending the summit, Biden said, "If you ever come to the train station with me, you’ll notice that I have great relationships with them because there’s an awful lot of them driving cabs and are friends of mine, for real," Politico reported.

For many of those present, Biden's off-the-cuff remarks brought back memories of his earlier gaffes, common enough to be termed "Bidenisms." They include a comment about Indian-Americans in 2006, when he said, "I’ve had a great relationship. In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking," CBS News reported.

And, in 2007, Biden said of President Barack Obama, "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man," CNN reported.

Biden, 72, also recently raised eyebrows with his "touchy-feely" actions toward Stephanie Carter, new Defense Secretary Ash Carter's wife, during Carter's swearing-in ceremony, when Biden approached her from behind, placed both hands on her shoulders and leaned over to whisper in her ear for 20 seconds, the Star Tribune reported.

Politico noted that the Somali comments especially caused a reaction because two Somali men were charged with aiding the Islamic State (ISIS) in November in Minnesota.

The Daily Caller reported that last year it was estimated that 15 Somali Muslims from Minnesota had traveled to the Middle East to join ISIS, and that Liban Haji Mohamed, a former Washington, D.C., cab driver of Somali descent, had wound up on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists List for allegedly supporting Al Shabaab, a group linked to al-Qaida in Somalia.

Biden, who has hinted he may try a run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016, even added that his comments were, "For real. I'm not being solicitous. I'm being serious," the Huffington Post reported.

"Nationally, Biden is just regarded as almost a novelty," Kyle Kondik, political analyst at the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, said, the Star Tribune reported.

"It cuts two ways. He gets away with some stuff that others might not get away with, but it also makes him seem like a less serious person than he'd like to be."

Biden told the summit, "National security flows from a sense of community," adding, "inclusion counts," The Associated Press reported.

"We haven't always gotten it right but we have a lot of experience integrating communities into the American system, the American dream."

LOL de jure, congress is an equal third in the checks and balanced.

In reality... de facto... they matter less and less.   Executive orders changed everything.

Biden launches 2020 bid warning ‘soul’ of America at stake

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Vice President Joe Biden formally joined the crowded Democratic presidential contest on Thursday, declaring the “soul of this nation” at stake if President Donald Trump wins re-election.

In a video posted on Twitter , Biden focused on the 2017 deadly clash between white supremacists and counter protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia. Biden noted Trump’s comments that there were some “very fine people” on both sides of the violent encounter, which left one woman dead.

“We are in the battle for the soul of this nation,” Biden said. “If we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation — who we are. And I cannot stand by and watch that happen.”

The 76-year-old Biden becomes an instant front-runner alongside Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is leading many polls and has proved to be a successful fundraiser . Biden has legislative and international experience that is unmatched in the Democratic field , and he is among the best-known faces in U.S. politics.

Hours after former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden launched his presidential bid he briefly spoke to reporters at Wilmington's Amtrak station.

He quickly racked up endorsements on Thursday morning, becoming the first Democrat running for president with the backing of more than one U.S. senator.

Still, Biden must compete in a field that now spans at least 20 Democrats and has been celebrated for its racial and gender diversity. As an older white man with occasionally centrist views, Biden has to prove he’s not out of step with his party. He’s yet to outline his positions on the issues defining the 2020 Democratic primary, most notably “Medicare for All,” the universal health care plan authored by Sanders that has been adopted by virtually the entire Democratic field.

His critics in both major political parties were also quick to pounce.

“The old guard of the Democratic Party failed to stop Trump, and they can’t be counted on to lead the fight against his divide-and-conquer politics today,” the liberal group Justice Democrats tweeted. “The party needs new leadership with a bold vision capable of energizing voters in the Democratic base who stayed home in 2016.”

Biden, a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, is betting that his working class appeal and ties to Barack Obama’s presidency will help him win over such skeptics. Obama has declined to endorse Biden, however, and several former Obama aides are now working for other candidates.

“I asked President Obama not to endorse,” Biden told reporters as he arrived in Delaware Thursday. “Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits.”

While he hasn’t endorsed anyone in the crowded field, Obama took the unusual step of weighing in on Thursday’s announcement.

“President Obama has long said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made,” Obama spokeswoman Katie Hill said. “He relied on the vice president’s knowledge, insight, and judgment throughout both campaigns and the entire presidency. The two forged a special bond over the last 10 years and remain close today.”

Trump welcomed Biden to the campaign in a tweet calling him “Sleepy Joe.”

“I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign,” Trump said. “It will be nasty - you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate.”

Privately, Trump allies have warned that Biden might be the biggest re-election threat given the former vice president’s potential appeal among the white working class in the Midwest, the region that gave Trump a path to the presidency.

Biden is paying special attention to his native Pennsylvania, a state that swung to Trump in 2016 after voting for Democratic presidential candidates for decades. While Biden represented Delaware in the Senate for 36 years, he was often referred to as Pennsylvania’s third senator.

The former vice president will be in the state three times within the opening weeks of his campaign. He’ll be in Philadelphia on Thursday evening headlining a fundraiser at the home of David L. Cohen, executive senior vice president of Comcast. Biden is aiming to raise $500,000 at the event.

He will hold his first public event as a 2020 presidential candidate in Pittsburgh on Monday. Then it’s off to Iowa, home of the leadoff nominating caucuses on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by two days in South Carolina. He’ll visit the other two early-voting states, Nevada and New Hampshire, in early May, before holding a major rally in Philadelphia.

Biden’s first media appearance is set for Friday morning on ABC’s “The View,” a move that may help him make an appeal to women whose support will be crucial to winning the primary. He also hired Symone Sanders to serve as a senior strategist, tapping a prominent African American who previously worked for Biden’s chief competitor, Bernie Sanders, in the 2016 presidential contest.

As he neared his campaign launch, Biden’s challenges have come into greater focus.

He struggled last month to respond to claims that he touched 2014 Nevada lieutenant governor nominee Lucy Flores’ shoulders and kissed the back of her head before a fall campaign event. A handful of other women have made similar claims, though none has alleged sexual misconduct.

Biden, a former U.S. senator from Delaware, pledged in an online video to be “much more mindful” of respecting personal space but joked two days later that he “had permission” to hug a male union leader before addressing the group’s national conference.

Biden also has been repeatedly forced to explain his 1991 decision, as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, to allow Anita Hill to face difficult questions from an all-male panel about allegations of sexual harassment against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, who later was confirmed to the high court.

He has since apologized for his role in the hearing. But in the #MeToo era, particularly after the contentious confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the episode remains a significant political liability.

Likewise, Biden once played a key role in anti-crime legislation that had a disproportionately negative impact on African Americans. And while several 2020 Democratic contenders have embraced the possibility of reparations to African Americans for slavery in recent weeks, Biden last month struggled to explain comments he made as a freshman senator in 1975 about the school busing debate.

His first White House bid in 1988 ended after a plagiarism scandal. He dropped out of the 2008 race after earning less than 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucuses. Later that year, Obama named Biden as his running mate.

Boyd Brown, a prominent South Carolina Democrat backing Beto O’Rourke, said Biden’s opening salvo stands out.

“This is very strong out of the chute. Well done. Biden just sucked the wind out of the sails for much of the field,” he said.

But he noted that announcement bumps fade and said Biden still has “to campaign the same aggressive way for the next nine months.”

Hunter Biden on his affair with brother's widow: 'Love people & find a way to love yourself'
washington examiner ^ | January 19, 2019 | Sean Higgins
Posted on 4/25/2019, 12:03:48 PM by UMCRevMom@aol.com

Former Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, said that his father counseled him not to worry about hurting the family's "public profile" when it came to his private life, which includes divorcing his wife and engaging in an affair with his late brother Beau's widow, Hallie.

"Even though my life has been played out in the media, because I am a Biden, my father never once suggested that the family's public profile should be my priority. The priority has always been clear for my dad, as it is, now, for me: Never run from a struggle. Love people and find a way to love yourself," Hunter Biden, 48, said in a letter to Vanity Fair.

The younger Biden's letter was in response to a magazine profile of the former vice president, a top contender for the potential 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. The article noted Hunter's ugly 2017 divorce from his wife, Kathleen, following 23 years of marriage and three children as a potential image problem for the family.

Kathleen initiated the break-up, citing irreconcilable differences in a D.C. Court filing. She claimed in divorce papers that he had spent "extravagantly on his own interests (including drugs, alcohol, prostitutes, strip clubs and gifts for women with whom he has sexual relations), while leaving the family with no funds to pay legitimate bills."

Hunter was discharged from the Navy Reserve, where he had been working as a public affairs officer, in 2014 after he tested positive for cocaine. In response to Kathleen's filing, Hunter's lawyers demanded that she furnish any letters, emails, or other messages "between you and any person that you had a romantic or sexual relationship with other than your husband during the marriage."

After the filing became public, Hunter Biden acknowledged that he had become involved with Hallie Biden, the widow of his brother Beau. It is unclear when the relationship between the two began. Beau Biden, the former attorney general for the Bidens' home state of Delaware, died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46.

Hunter Biden said at the time, "Hallie and I are incredibly lucky to have found the love and support we have for each other" and that "family and friends ... have supported us every step of the way.”

In response to the Vanity Fair inquiry about his affair, Hunter Biden said: "What you fail to realize, in asking such a question, is that my father has always been proud of me — whether when I was volunteering for the Jesuits, or working as a lawyer. And he remains proud of me today. He loves me. And he loves the American people far too much to let any form of adversity stand in the way of service."

Joe Biden issued a statement backing his son. "We are all lucky that Hunter and Hallie found each other as they were putting their lives together again after such sadness. They have mine and Jill’s full and complete support, and we are happy for them," he said.

Hunter Biden told Vanity Fair that his father would not let the controversy be a factor in whether he decides to officially seek the presidency again. "[H]e remains proud of me today. He loves me. And he loves the American people far too much to let any form of adversity stand in the way of service," he said.

He sought to portray the controversy as one of the several tragedies the Biden family has endured. "Pain is one of the unavoidable facts of life. We Bidens have had our share. We don't pretend, otherwise. And we don't pretend that we are different from families all over America that have to face the loss of loved ones, or have to deal with the fallout of divorces," Hunter Biden said.

Joe Biden, who will be 78 years old in 2020, is an early front-runner in the Democratic primary. He has sought the presidency numerous times previously, mounting his first bid in 1984. His 1988 bid was derailed over a controversy regarding whether he plagiarized a speech. He also ran unsuccessfully in 2008 but was picked by President Barack Obama to be his running mate.

Former Vice President Joe Biden claimed Wednesday that there were no scandals or lies in the Obama-Biden administration.
“Know what I was most proud of?” he asked voters in Iowa. “For eight years, there wasn’t one single hint of a scandal or a lie.”

Would not surprise me.  Check this out:

Obama staffers deleted speeches about the immigration crisis hours before Trump’s inauguration
BY MARCUS BARAM
06.11.19

In the last hours of the Obama administration’s time in office, staffers at Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed hundreds of speeches and testimonies dating back to 2004 from the agency’s website, according to a watchdog group.

The transcripts contained “prepared remarks submitted to congressional committees, often on controversial topics like the standard of medical treatment for detainees, treatment of unaccompanied children, sanctuary cities, drug trafficking, and E-Verify,” according to the Sunlight Foundation’s Web Integrity Project. The group says they were removed between the early afternoon of January 18 and late evening of January 19 in 2017, mere hours before the inauguration of Donald Trump.

“With a couple of clicks of a mouse, access to a federal government web resource containing 12 years of primary source materials on ICE’s history was lost,” notes the group in a blog post.

Given the heated coverage of the immigration crisis at the Mexican border, it’s notable that the scrubbed speeches included testimony from Thomas Homan, then executive assistant director of enforcement and removal operations who was appointed acting director of ICE by President Trump soon after his inauguration.

In a February 2016 statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee about the “Unaccompanied Children Crisis,” Homan described how the agency used contractors to “effectuate” the transportation of “UC” (unaccompanied children) and detailed the “important steps” the Obama administration had taken to “deter illegal immigration.” In another transcript removed from the site, Homan described how local jurisdictions that chose to limit or decline “cooperation with ICE” put “the public at risk.”

As the Web Integrity Project notes, considering the partisan wrangling over the immigration crisis, “it is not inconceivable that an outgoing Democratic administration might want to avoid preserving these public stances for future scrutiny.” But it remains unclear why those transcripts were removed.

A rep for ICE did not return a request for comment.

Some of the transcripts were available elsewhere online, such as the Government Publishing Office and the Department of Homeland Security, but others were not. The Sunlight Foundation found that “we were unable to track down a large number of the speeches,” detailing its efforts in this spreadsheet and emphasizing the importance of web archiving by outgoing administrations.
