Sources: Palin mock debates are "disastrous"
« on: September 25, 2008, 08:00:03 PM »
McCain Camp insiders say Palin "clueless"
Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people
are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held
a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as "disastrous." One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, "What are we going to do?" The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is "clueless."

Sorry - please move to political board

Please link me to the source!  Sounds totally believable. This lady is a total disaster and most of us knew this was the case since Day 1.

McCain is backing down - may just do the debate

The University of Mississippi has been primping for months, and you can just tell they're hoping this debate thing Friday night doesn't turn into one of those nightmare weddings that where the groom gets cold feet at the last minute and there's no way to cancel the caterers.

This just in from the Ole Miss folks:

University of Mississippi officials met with representatives of the Commission on Presidential Debates this afternoon, and learned that advance staffs for Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama completed a walk-through of the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, site of Friday's presidential debate. Moderator Jim Lehrer also participated in the walk-through.

Obama has 13-point Michigan lead over McCain; Momentum swings to Obama in almost every demographic
 Advertisements [?]Source: Detroit Free Press.

A week of economic crisis in Washington and on Wall Street has been very, very good for Barack Obama – at least in Michigan.

The Detroit Free Press/Local 4 Michigan Poll shows the Democratic senator from Illinois with a commanding lead of 13 points over Republican John McCain in the presidential race. Obama’s lead of 51% to 38% in the poll is nearly double the edge he had a month ago in a Michigan Poll taken just before the Democratic convention in Denver.

The poll showed momentum swinging clearly to Obama in almost every demographic. Among women, his lead is now 54%-35% -- eight points better than it was a month ago, before the Democratic and Republican national conventions and McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Among independents, Obama enjoys a 14-point lead.

As for what’s driving it – it’s the economy.

Listen, after seeing the clips from Katie Couric's interview with her last night I decided the same thing.  I'm not sure she's competent for a position on this level.  It was as if Katie Couric actually realized "this bitch" doesn't have a chance after a couple of her questions and really decided to punish her for having the audacity to run for VP in subsequent questioning.

Last night, we showed you what Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had to say about the economy (in case you missed it, she said we're at some risk of repeating the Great Depression). Tonight, we'll show you what Katie asked her about foreign policy - and where Palin said she stands. First, a little taste of what's to come.
(CBS)

Katie Couric: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundry that we have with Canada. It's funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don't know, you know … reporters.

Couric: Mocked?

Palin: Mocked, yeah I guess that's the word, mocked.

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of. And there…

Couric: Have you ever been involved in any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

Palin: We have trade missions back and forth, we do. It's very important when you consider even national-security issues with Russia. As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.

Okay..... So maybe I'm new to politics, but when did Individual states start having relations with other countries (Mexico and Canada aside)?  If proximity is the only criteria, then I have skillz too.  We live 90 miles from cuba you know.

Couric: In preparing for this conversation, a lot of our viewers … and Internet users wanted to know why you did not get a passport until last year. And they wondered if that indicated a lack of interest and curiosity in the world.

Palin: I'm not one of those who maybe came from a background of, you know, kids who perhaps graduate college and their parents give them a passport and give them a backpack and say go off and travel the world.

No, I've worked all my life. In fact, I usually had two jobs all my life until I had kids. I was not a part of, I guess, that culture. The way that I have understood the world is through education, through books, through mediums that have provided me a lot of perspective on the world.

Couric: Gov. Palin, you've had a very busy week. And you're meeting with many world leaders. You met with President Karzai of Afghanistan. I know the McCain campaign has called for a surge in Afghanistan. But that country is, as you know, dramatically different than Iraq. Why do you believe additional troops, U.S. troops, will solve the problem there?

Palin: Because we can't afford to lose in Afghanistan, as we cannot afford to lose in Iraq, either, these central fronts on the war on terror. And I asked President Karzai, "Is that what you are seeking, also? That strategy that has worked in Iraq that John McCain had pushed for, more troops? A counterinsurgency strategy?" And he said, "yes." And he also showed great appreciation for what America and American troops are providing in his country.

Couric: The United States is deeply unpopular in Pakistan. Do you think the Pakistani government is protecting al Qaeda within its borders?

Palin: I don't believe that new President Zardari has that mission at all. But no, the Pakistani people also, they want freedom. They want democratic values to be allowed in their country, also. They understand the dangers of terrorists having a stronghold in regions of their country, also. And I believe that they, too, want to rid not only their country, but the world, of violent Islamic terrorists.

Couric: You recently said three times that you would never, quote, "second guess" Israel if that country decided to attack Iran. Why not?

Palin: We shouldn't second guess Israel's security efforts because we cannot ever afford to send a message that we would allow a second Holocaust, for one. Israel has got to have the opportunity and the ability to protect itself. They are our closest ally in the Mideast. We need them. They need us. And we shouldn't second guess their efforts.

Couric: You don't think the United States is within its rights to express its position to Israel? And if that means second-guessing or discussing an option?

Palin: No, abso … we need to express our rights and our concerns and …

Couric: But you said never second guess them.

Palin: We don't have to second-guess what their efforts would be if they believe … that it is in their country and their allies, including us, all of our best interests to fight against a regime, especially Iran, who would seek to wipe them off the face of the earth. It is obvious to me who the good guys are in this one and who the bad guys are. The bad guys are the ones who say Israel is a stinking corpse and should be wiped off the face of the earth. That's not a good guy who is saying that. Now, one who would seek to protect the good guys in this, the leaders of Israel and her friends, her allies, including the United States, in my world, those are the good guys.

Actually that's exactly the clip I was talking about.  Reading it in text doesn't even do it justice.  She could have gotten out of that pretty easily IMO just by joking it off and telling Katie Couric the media and everyone else needs to lighten up...she could have pretty easily sold that statement as a joke...but she hasn't the sense to realize that she doesn't have to justify every single word that comes out of her mouth.  I just thought her original answer was a pretty good one had she known better how to play it off right.

If I were McCain I'd have made sure that my VP had at least a 2000 Getbig post-count on his/her resume.

She came off as a wind-up doll they programmed to "prove to them you knew everything" and didn't have the sense to abort mission when need be.  Sometimes you've gotta acknowledge your shortcomings.  Katie Couric out-aced her so badly, one wonders why she wouldn't have been considered a better candidate than Palin.  The same could have been said for Charlie Gibson when he did it but I guess it was probably more forgivable to some because he was a man.  Here another female made her look like an idiot.  Like a degree more of an owning was just given to her to stress the point.

Obama is a highly intelligent man.

Mccain was 5th from LAST in his naval academy class.  894 out of 899 students.
Palin webt to SIX college before limping out with a degree in journalism.
You have dipshits on getbig that have far greater educations.

Obviously college isn't everything - but it's a decent indicator of mental ability.  You have two lawyers on the dem ticket, and two "barely limped thru college" people on the Repub ticket.

You have two perfect dads on the dem ticket, and you have two homewreckers on the Repub ticket.

Anyone remember when Repubs were the smarter group with the moral high ground?
Today it seems like they're the slacker goof-offs of the batch.
