Why do you stay so far behind the times?  Do you like it?  Take pride in it?  On a modest budget?  Weren't you balking about upgrading to Window's XP just a few months ago?  One can't always be on the cutting edge but cassette tapes in 2008.  Why? 

You need some young people in your life to bring you--and keep you--up to speed.  Do you have any kids?  Nieces?  Nephews? etc.

We are both the same age judging by what i can tell (Early 40s)
But you seem stuck in a time warp.
Music wise I still love the 80s and 90s but technology wise I am NOW!
Get some sane young people in your life, it helps

Being around undergraduate and graduate students I can't help but be kept current, but even younger family members or friends of family members can help keep you up to date.  My mom has a XP pc but she also has iTunes on it and routinely listens to radio channels via the internet.  One of my mentors is in his late 60's and he has an iPhone; in fact, he got one more than a year before I did...  Another friend of mine is a retired opera singer; she has a 3G iPhone and really knows how to use its many features.  I was stunned when she whipped it out and started using it...

I haven't seen or touched a cassette tape in at least ten years and even then I only dug that box of tapes out of the closet to use it as a guide for downloading mp3s of older songs I was missing from my digital collection (this was back in the days of Napster and similar file sharing networks).

A few years ago, when I was teaching, I brought a big floppy disk to class and asked the students if they knew what it was.  None of them recognized it!

Let me echo powerpack: bring some young people into your life.  Heck, if your single become a cougar!

I was cleaning out my storage room this past week. Had a whole bunch of floppy disks which I threw out, cassette and mini cassette tapes in a few boxes.

I'm up to date with technology. Although I do collect vinyl records.
It's still fascinating to see how far we have come.

Odd question, I have mini cassette tapes of people who used to make voice memo's and they have passed away since. It was nice to hear their voices again. Is there someway that I can digitized these?

Oh sure.  If you don't have the equipment yourself there are shops that do that sort of thing for a fee.  If I needed something like that done, I would take it to audio tech services on campus and have them do it; a school near you can probably do it (for free) if you are  a student, alum, faculty, staff, etc.

View the tapes to make certain there is nothing you want on them.  Then ditch them.  We have two dual VCR/DVD machines.  One in the living room and one in the bedroom.  The dual DVD/VCR machine is a great machine to have because there are some old classic movies that are still not available on DVD.  This is particularly true of old pornography.

I have tapes that are nearly 20 years old and my mother has some that are even older than that.

I like DVDs, but the picture can act up from time to time. Plus, if a DVD breaks, THAT'S IT. I've had video tapes snap multiple times. All it takes is some clear Scotch tape and and VCR cassette is almost as good as new. If a portion of a tape stretches too thin, cut that section out and tape the rest together.

The same goes for audio cassettes, which I was using with a Walkman (yes, that's what I said) until a few months ago, when I lost it. I hadn't touched some of my old audio tapes from the 90s until, I was looking for an old magazine in the garage and found my wife's Walkman in the garage. Next to my magazines was a box with my tapes. I figured "The tapes are there; I have a Walkman; there are batteries all over the place....WHY NOT??" It felt great listening to some of my favorite tunes.

Granted, some people were looking at me, as if I had two heads, when they saw me flipping the tape over. But, I had a good old time. Plus, I'm going to combine a little old school with some new school. I'll go to YouTube and look up the videos to some old dance tunes I used to like, back in the day, and record them on some blank tapes.
