Do you think Congress remembered the way Pat act was shoved down their throat in a similar way (very short on details, oversight completely by Bush, and ushered in with fear tactics)?

On this one, It's getting so hard to see what's actually going on through the politics.

it was a *decent* bill, but as (I think) Buffet warned, it would undermine the buck. It'll still probably pass.

Bush will have 700 billion to use however he wants. Who is cool with that?

Bush can still issue the bill with executive order, which crates a major political shitstorm.

repubs want a re-vote, but most congressmen just want to get on a plane and the hell outta there. No COngress tomorrow (jewish holiday) and many congressmen aren't coming back to DC - THIS YEAR.

Republicans kiled this for one reason: if it had passed the house McCain would have either had to vote for/against (a big risk given his current weakness in the polls on economics and the fact that he doesn't know how americans will feel about the bailout) or skip the vote - a HUGE risk given his recent arguments about personally coming back to fix the economy and his weak polling on economics. It was too big a risk.

So rather than giving a crap about americans, they put party politics first. Nice.

I just thought the Republicans were sticking up for Americans like they use to.
