Care to trace it back...U Libs beyond delusional. Lets debate with facts instead of bs lib rhetoric.

Twenty years ago the buzz-word in the media was "redlining." Newspapers across the country were filled with hard-hitting investigative reports about evil and racist mortgage lenders refusing to make real estate loans to various minorities and to applicants who lived in lower-income neighborhoods. Meaning they would not give loans to people whi could not pay, imagine that.

Political correctness won the day. Washington made it clear to banks and other lending institutions that if they did not do something .. and fast .. to bring more minorities and low-income Americans into the world of home ownership there would be a heavy price to pay. Congress set up processes (Research the Community Redevelopment Act) whereby community activist groups and organizers could effectively stop a bank's efforts to grow if that bank didn't make loans to unqualified borrowers. Enter, stage left, the "subprime" mortgage. These lenders knew that a very high percentage of these loans would turn to garbage - but it was a price that had to be paid if the bank was to expand and grow. We should note that among the community groups browbeating banks into making these bad loans was an outfit called ACORN...which a Dem front goup.

People who can't pay their bills should not own houses. This is the route cause of the current crisis. U can blame Bush all u want but he did not ask anybody to change the laws in 1995, Clinton did. He didn't ask anybody to push home loans poor people like the Dems did.  Ur only argument will be that Bush didn't regulate the industry, yeah got it, but plenty of Republicans including Bush complained about this crisis before it became one. And now the same idiots who got us into this mess, who profited from it, advise Obama. The same guys who sank Leman brothers and both Freddie and Fanni, the same guys investigated for fraud, are writing economic policy for the "messiah".

A key point that you're missing in all of that is that loans to low income families under the Community Redevelopment Act had the highest rates of repayment. Fancy that. It wasn't poor minorities that caused this mess. Find another scapegaot.

you loose all credit and sound foolish when the last word of your post is "messiah" in reference to Obama.

U guys call McCain old, u make fun of Palin, the same for Bush and hold the esteem of as guy who's done very little to be voted into office, I'll call him what I want....i could call him worse. Others on this board have called those I've mentioned above, worse.

As to my post, I'll assume the facts outweight the lib BS. Its not the whole picture but its a good chunk and represents a root cause.  Greed, inadequate oversight etc etc are all other factors and I don't dispute that.

This mess is a direct result of deregulation of banking and securities industry - PERIOD

Of the two candidates for POTUS - McCain get's 99% of the blame.

His entire career was based on deregulation

This was the result of the clinton Admin forcing or redlining loans to minorities....period.
Of the two candidates..Obama's economic team benefited greatly while shit canning 3 institutions.

IMO it will be the biggest upset since the New York "Football" Giants upset the undefeated New England Patriots in the Super Bowl should Obama blow this election.

He has to seriously fuck up to lose this one.

Both sides are going to do their share of fear mongering but the threat of losing jobs and retirement plans is going to put Obama in the White House.

I assume you're referring to CRA loans (Community Re-Investment Act) and while those loans has high LTV's the borrowers still needed good credit and the loans were full documentation.

The problems were from the SubPrime and Alt-A loans and the reason those types of loans came into existence was because de-regulation of banking (repeal of Glass Steagal) and deregulation of commodities (specifically credit default swaps)
