The thickest bodybuilders are the ones that trained super heavy
« on: October 04, 2008, 04:02:40 AM »
Ronnie, Dorian, Nasser, Tom Prince, Franco...all possessed THICKNESS
They trained hard and heavy. The new guys like Wolf and Heath, even guys like Flex wheeler
have physiques that reflect their training methods (no thickness)

Yea, exactly.  Im pretty sure there are other pics of Ronnie that will display his mass perfectly fine, but of course this little closet case chose that one. :-\

TELL THAT TO PAUL DILLETT !!!! Super thick. He was one of the first freaks of the 90's. I watched him train daily in Venice for years. The man trained super, super light. And he was massive.

i do not agree with the "heavier = more mass" part.

Ronnie had tremendous genetics, if for nothing more than his response to gear - doesnt get any better than that.

If heavy weight was the key to being giant, nobody would train light. i wouldnt consider lee priest, dexter, shawn ray, etc etc to be big and "thick" as ronnie, but they are by no means small, and they dont train nearly as heavy as ronnie's big ape ass does.

I could name 10 bodybuilders that have better arms than dorian, and they didnt go all heavy stupid crazy, just high volume and moderate weight.

I would think certain muscle groups would warrant different training methods. You couldn't treat your biceps to the same weight ratio and reps as say quads right?

I have watched Strydom train for years in Venice. He is another man who has trained very light for many years now. And he is thick as hell.

does anyone think that heavy squats might have something to do with midsection/ab/gut thickness

i think so

i was reading starting strength by mark rippetoe ( an ebook that i got a link to off this site ) and he claims that doing squats will strengthen the body from the hip in both directions

so if these guys want serious quad growth, their abdomens would (theoretically) have to adapt in the same manner

just a thought.

I think it would depend on body mechanics. Platz squatted narrow as shit. I stand wider. That must mean it's hitting different parts right?

heavy deads and squats will no doubt thicken your waist..... not as much as overeating in the off seasom and abusing igf/slin/growth

Markus and DJ train pretty heavy, look at the video of DJ inclining 455 like 3 days out of  a contest.
Dillet was big but not thick like the other men, his chest to back thickness was not on the other mantioned men's level.
I would also add Kevin to the list, couse he was not very wide but he was thick.

Vince Taylor was another guy who trained with lighter weight, but higher reps.

have you ever seen Dillett in person? I watched the man train for over 5 years while he was living in venice. Nearly everyday. Paul was one of the thickest men ever. Looking at paul from the side was a sight to be seen. Heavy weights do not mean thickness. A guys genetics and his roid use are what does it. If Dillett had said that he trained super heavy than we would all be saying how paul is so thick because he trains heavy. it is all bullshit when one is juiced up to the heavens and one has freak genetics. In the 80's Strydom trained super heavy and he was huge. In the 90's and the present Strydom trains super light with pumpsets and he is even bigger than he was. And he is near 50years old. With Strydoms amount of gear, smarts and superman genetics it doesnt matter if he trained with rubber bands. He would still grow.

I genuinely feel bad for him looking at this pic. Unrecognizable from his former self. I hope he's at least healthy now.

Yes, heavy weights=thickness. If you have the genes for it.

Dude, are for fucking real????

Strydom used to have trouble bench pressing 275# for reps in the 80's.
