Trianing to failure is daft,

That statement is "daft" to each their own buddy.

Ok.

For better results training to failure is not ideal

i just don't understand why it is important to know whether you got 10 or 11 reps on a particular exercise

if it's important shouldn't you be able to remember?

E
its so they can beat it the next time they workout, you know they expect to get that 12th rep on that 13th exercise  ::)

explain
failure training is the only way you can push your muscles beyond previous stress and have progressive overload

Depends what you're doing.  If I'm alternating volume/heavy or doing something like power/rep/shock on a 4 way split, there's no way I'd remember what I got over a week ago.

I know what you mean.  If you just push yourself hard, then you've pushed yourself hard.  Keeping records shows you if you're getting stale, or the impact a dietary change is having tho.

To get into the next "set"?

You know these tools who workout exactly 45,764125712374682t34182371 minutes, drink 1,2348732480184 litres of water during and wait for 30,32482721471234562142983041238476473624982348263464 seconds to get into the next set or else they will "spare" 2,342134234234 lbs of their "fat-free" musclemass?

Calm down, sheila, normal people don't spend hours and hours in the gym like you, because you have nothing else.

for me , every workout was different

if I've had a big day at work , poundage's are lighter and rest is longer

just started lifting before work now this last week

definitely stronger

feel so fresh in the morning , shorter rest breaks (2 mins max )

go to work feeling like I can pick up the truck

I don't check my watch -- I can pretty much approximate my rest times between sets quite accurately.

However, I feel it's critical to bring my log book with me into the gym to record everything.  Not just sets and reps, but rep style (strict form, decent form, explosive, partial reps, forced reps, drop sets, etc.), order of exercises (e.g. one workout start off with Incline DB presses, next workout it might be my 3rd exercise and therefore my poundages will be less, etc.), time of the day I'm working out, whether I ate good that day or if I didn't get enough meals in, whether I got enough sleep the night before, approx. length of rest periods between sets, whether I was dealing with an injury at the time.....endless number of factors, but important to record and look back on it and learn from mistakes.  I don't know about you guys, but I can't remember all of the things I mentioned above and still work a full time job and take care of my family.

You're able to remember how much you lifted for how many reps for every set of every exercise of every workout, from week to week?  Fuck, I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning.

failure training is the only way you can push your muscles beyond previous stress and have progressive overload

Its is like tring to jump as far as you can without taking a run up...yes you get so far

Take a run up (cycling weights) and overload the muscles so graduall that way. Works for size and strength
