More on Army combat unit to deploy within U.S.
« on: October 05, 2008, 11:55:25 PM »
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/03/army.unit/index.html

The United States military's Northern Command, formed in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, is dedicating a combat infantry team to deal with catastrophes in the U.S., including terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry, which was first into Baghdad, Iraq, in 2003, started its controversial assignment Wednesday.

The plan is drawing skepticism from some observers who are concerned that the unit has been training with equipment generally used in law enforcement, including beanbag bullets, Tasers, spike strips and roadblocks. That kind of training seems a bit out of line for the unit's designated role as Northern Command's CCMRF (Sea Smurf), or CBRNE Consequence Management Response Force. CBRNE stands for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive incidents.

Bloggers are criticizing the new force, saying that because it has been training in law enforcement tactics it could be be used for domestic law enforcement.

Troops may be trained in non-lethal tactics, but they are not trained for what they may have to deal with in domestic situations, said Gene Healy, a vice president of the conservative think-tank Cato Institute The U.S. military "is not a Swiss Army knife," ready to fight the Taliban one week, respond to a hurricane the next and put down a major political protest the third week, Healy said.

"We need a lot more in our toolbox in order to deal with angry people on the street," said Col. Barry Johnson of U.S. Army North. "We don't have the luxury to wish these things away. We have to imagine the unimaginable," Johnson said.

The timing of these operations  is funny.

The U.S. military "is not a Swiss Army knife," ready to fight the Taliban one week, respond to a hurricane the next and put down a major political protest the third week, Healy said.   :o

I don't worry about this.  Seriously.  If I was running the country and we were about to have a closely-contested election in the midst of a near-financial crumbiling, you'd better believe I'd have troops on the ready should some youtube warrior mobilize something that gets out of control, or Obama loses and some idiots decide to start Watts II in their city.  The use of non-deadly gear is reassuring too.  If they were practicing with live rounds, you'd have something to worry about lol...

And I can tell you if there are riots, I sure as hell won't be in the middle of it.  I"ll be on my porch with a rifle and an acoustic guitar enjoying the break from work that'll come with a temporary societal collapse :)

Also, putting the libs in camps would completley bankrupt the USA.  We're already in a recession, possible a Great one.  Taking 20 million taxpayers out of circulation and productivity, then paying to feed and house them, will hurt the economy much worse.   And will those military people keep going to work still do it when their paychecks (in dollars) are worth toilet paper?  NO, they'll be going home to guard their own homes.

This is just a precautionary thing.  Alex jones (a puppet, maybe) talks about it nonstop so those who visit his site will self-curb any ideas of pulling a V/Vendetta move.

I was thinking Vietnam, hippies and right wingers, riots, civil rights movement. A president like JFK and the FBI pitting American against American, Communism then, now terrorism.

he kind of planted the seed don't you think? pumped it out there and look it's becoming reality in some way.

it's weird as if the things he "predicted" are coming to fruition. Freaky. doubt its a coincidence.

How about a panic due to no employment, no gas, no food, etc.?
