McCain lied about what Obama said on sitting down with Iran, but that's been covered here many times.  I can't believe McCain still thinks he can say it.  and again, Achmeninjad never said he he wanted to destroy Israel and the holocaust crap is crap.  If Iran wanted to kill Jews why haven't they ever wiped out the Jewish communities in Iran?  McCain is a fearmongering dipshit.  In other words, he's a neocon and we've learned where their fearmongering gets us...

did he say that about our medical records?? i must've missed it.
I could have swore I heard him say it but it went by fast so there might have been some other point to it.  Sounded like he said it but I need to go back and listen to that answer again.  I did a doubletake WTF and lost his points when I heard him mention puting medical records online.

True.   I guess the only way to get some real fun in these things would be to have Hannity question Obama, and Olberman question McCain.

Then we'd really see who could handle some heat.

They both gave very scripted answers.

But two new ALARMING items came up...

online medical records... wtf?

the government buying up mortgages? fuck... didn't McCain just rail on Obama about excessive government spending?

oh yeah... they both support nuclear power and off shore drilling.... that can't make the greens happy.

well I wouldn't want to see a negative bullshit session right when the country is in chaos either and that's all that would be.

wow, McCain did say it: "Let's put health records online, that will reduce medical errors"  Who wants their health records online?

I know I'm going to get roasted for saying this, but....up to this point, I think the forum at the Saddleback Church hosted by Pastor Rick Warren is undoubtedly given the American voter the best inside look at who the candidates are as individuals.  These debates that we've seen after that point are all talking points.  Just like tonight.  I thought the town hall forum was supposed to be question by real people, not cherry-picked political talking point questions that we would hear from other journalist like we saw tonight.

On to tonight's debate.  I think Barack Obama proved himself to be like one of the guys that I work with...someone we call the "Teflon Man"...meaning nothing stuck to him, even when the evidence points directly to him.  Now, in all fairness to Sen. Obama, it wasn't his job to go out and throw punches tonight (though I think he had a couple of nice hay-makers in there).  He just needed to duck and dodge, and that's just what he did.  John McCain threw some serious shots tonight.  None of them really stuck tonight, but they're going to be playing these shots over the next couple of weeks like a gift that just keeps on giving.  He did establish some differences between the two of them.  Whether or not people pick up on those differences is the biggest question in my mind.

I would give the edge to McCain for the same reason that folks say Sen. Biden beat Gov. Palin, which was on substance and at a minimum, the appearance of delivering facts.  The fact-checkers were given quite a bit of information to follow up on from Sen. McCain.

I truly thought McCain did a better job of distinguishing the difference between the two candidates, which is something I think the undecided voters need to see.

That's actually tech talk for putting the medical information into the electronic era.  My wife used to work in the Veterans' Administrative Hospital system or the VA where they have all the medical records within the computer system...no paperwork. Lots of benefits with going electronic with medical records...accuracy and cost-reduction being the two most obvious.

I was not crazy about the performance of either candidate.  It was by and large a rehash of the first debate.  I agree with those who have said it sounded like a talking points debate.  They both sounded scripted.

McCain refusing to shake Obama's hand was really classless.  I can understand being upset, particularly if someone is challenging your character, distorting your record, etc., but you simply can't do that when the entire country is watching.

no he didn't, Obama didn't say he would place them "online"  I don't them on computer either because they're hackable but online is way worse.

Yes he did.

He said he wanted online medical records to reduce medical errors - he said it first.

Then McCain said the same thing.

In case you forgot...

And we're going to do it by investing in prevention. We're going to do it by making sure that we use information technology so that medical records are actually on computers instead of you filling forms out in triplicate when you go to the hospital. That will reduce medical errors and reduce costs. -- Barack Obama

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/07/presidential.debate.transcript/

Now, you're probably thinking that putting them on computers isn't the same as putting them online. Well, it is. It's not like your medical data is sitting on some 5" floppy drive that's shoved into a desktop PC. It's stored on a server that connected to a network so doctors can easily access and share information. That's online.
