« on: October 15, 2008, 03:24:13 PM »
From: http://www.hardbody.com/news/2008/10/15/reality-cast-revealed/

It sounds like this has the potential to actually happen unlike other "reality shows" that were attempted with the bodybuilding/fitness industry.

• Jane Awad - Jane is a Canadian figure pro. She recently competed in the 2008 Olympia. Jane will also serve as co-executive producer and creative consultant for the show.

• Elaine Goodlad - Elaine is one of the top industry fitness models. She’s also one of the best at doing make-up for competitors. Currently residing in Las Vegas, NV but originally from Canada. Elaine is slated to compete next month.

• Jen Hendershott - Who doesn’t know Jen? This woman is everywhere these days. She’s the newest Fitness Olympia champ and runs her popular Phat Camps. Jen currently resides in North Carolina.

• Trish Warren - AKA “The Black Mamba” competed in the 2008 Fitness Olympia and is married to IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Branch Warren. Trish resides in Texas.

• Alicia Marie - One of the newest IFBB Figure pros, Alicia Marie is no stranger to the camera. She’s been linked to A-Rod and John Rocker. Alicia has also appeared on MTV a few times and is sponsored by BSN. She currently resides in Atlanta, GA.

• Jamie Ford - Jamie will be making her IFBB Figure debut next month in Sacramento. She’s recently divorced and used to go by the last name of Costa. Currently residing in Las Vegas, NV and going back to school for cosmetology.

I agree...  That's too bad they couldn't find some champs to actually make it "REAL," not just the same crap from the same girls we've seen over and again, and then no-names.

Personally, I like the lineup. We have a mixture of champions, breakout stars, and up-and-comers for the first season. I hope this last a while and more fitness/figure stars get an opportunity like this.

are they just doing a pilot?  airing on a major network, usa, vhi, mtv (probably the best fit)?  honestly...i'm not to excited about the lineup.  no one jumps at you even with the baseball groupie stuff that alicia brings to the table.
Oh...Monica!

Hey guys,

It will be a Warner Brothers Production and will air on a major network still to be determined.  They will probably start filming in Jan. of 2009.  The women who will appear were selected from a group and should all provide a positive representation of the lifestyle involved with being a fitness or figure athlete.  The group contains some very powerful personalities and accomplished competitors.  If the show does well then it should open the door for subsequent seasons probably featuring new athletes and hopefully some of your favorites so everyone's support is needed as this can be a big opportunity for a lot of people.

Reality TV Comes To The IFBB
By Terry Goodlad

After lots of talk and buzz over the last 3 months about a potential reality TV show, that has not been given a name yet, starring IFBB Fitness and Figure Pro’s, the anticipated reality TV show is actually becoming a reality.

IFBB Figure Pro Jane Awad who is also the co-executive producer and creative consultant for the project, announced the shows cast today.  The personalities were chosen for their appeal as well as diversity in disciplines, experience in the sport, and variety of personalities.  The show will start with 6 cast members,  Jane Awad, Elaine Goodlad, Jennifer Hendershott, Alicia Marie, Trish Warren, and Jaime Ford.

Business is about relationships and this opportunity came from a relationship Awad developed with prominent Hollywood producer Anthony Romano 6 years ago.  Romano had approached Awad about acting in one of his productions but due to circumstances she regretfully but respectfully declined.

Romano re-initiated contacted with Awad 6 months ago to discuss another production which opened the door for Awad to present an idea that she had been thinking about a long time, “I had this idea for a reality TV show for years.  We started talking about the different things in our sport that people would find interesting.  People read about us in magazines but there is so much they don’t know about the training, what drives us, the day to day stuff that is a part of being the best in the world at what we do.”

Romano is a very powerful producer in Hollywood with a pedigree as long as your arm, in conjunction with in another very prominent tinsel town heavy hitter, Producer David Krieff who has also made some of the biggest names in the business.  Krieff had years ago worked with Rachel McLish back when she was Ms. Olympia on a production and was very familiar with the IFBB and it’s athletes.  “David understood our sport from working with Rachel so it was easier to explain and visualize what the show could be.”

The concept was presented to Warner Brothers, they liked the idea, and Warner Brothers CEO Mark Wolper got involved.  Awad explained that the show is not just a concept at this point, “Warner brothers is behind it so, there won’t be a pilot, we go right into production, probably some time in January.  It’s just a matter of deciding which network it’s going to air on.  The plan is to shoot 13 episodes the first season.”

Awad explained that each of the cast members will be shadowed by camera’s all day long revealing every aspect of their personal and private lives with an emphasis on being a Professional fitness or figure athlete, “the idea is to show each girl, what they deal with each day, what drives them, the challenges they face, and what makes them do what they do.  The IFBB has never had this opportunity to be inside the homes of average American’s, to show them what we are about and what we do.  It’s a great opportunity for our sport and everyone involved.”

Elaine Goodlad was in Florida today when Awad gave her the call and while she was aware that she was likely to be cast, she was thrilled when the list was made formal,
“I can’t believe it’s actually going to happen!  This is going to be fun, maybe not so comfortable all the time but it’s a once in a lifetime chance.  I know a lot of really good girls tried out for this, some of them my very good friends and I know they will all be disappointed.  I think the girls they did cast for the show will make a very interesting and entertaining mix of personalities though.  I am excited to see how it all works out.”

Sounds more like a documentary, a day in the life type program.  Wonder if it can sustain any interest?  It is one thing to have vaccuous programs following well-known Hollywood celebrities and another to follow fitness/figure competitors who are little known outside bodybuilding circles.  I hope the concept works.

I’m all for mainstreaming fitness/bodybuilding, etc, but it’s hard to mainstream something that tends to be somewhat on the obscure side (at least to general audiences) like fitness/figure.

This sounds more to me like something that would fit in well on TLC or Discovery.
“A day in the life” of essentially unknown (for now) people seems to be in line with reality/documentary shows like John & Kate Plus 8 and Little People, Big World.

I hope they can make it interesting and appealing enough to broad audiences so that this project can thrive. It’d be nice for the female participants in the industry to get more chances to make some money.

I hope it works too!
Aren't the Big Brother people all unknown?  And the majority of people in shows like Rock of Love etc?

How long does shooting last?  Will the show culminate at the Arnold?  Not only could they have backstage and finals but snippets from the expo  :D

That's why I wonder if it will work.  Big Brother and Rock of Love are more like game shows.  People tune in to see who will win.  The game is the point.   The participants don't matter so long as they are engaging enough to keep people interested.

This show doesn't have a game aspect, so it need some hook to get people to watch.  The TLC comparison to Little People, Big World is apt.  This brings non-mainstream people into the common American's living room.

It's all about getting beyond the visual and into the lifestyles and personalities of the women.  These women are "mainstream" in most parts of their everyday lives.  Getting to know them can mean getting to care about them and what they do.  That's where the opportunity lies.  Hendershott is a character as well as an extremely hard worker.  Elaine Goodlad is remarkable in too many ways to mention and the more people know about her the more they like her.  Alicia Marie has so much personality and is so accomplished that people will be impressed and inspired.

Pumping Iron made Arnold, not because of his muscles but because of his personality.  These women now have similar opportunities with the advantage of being a lot easier to relate to by the public as their look is a lot less extreme than Olympia level bodybuilders.

I think the filming will go on for a while (But i really have no info on this) so the opportunity to discover who they are and what they do will exist.  I think that many of us can attest to the inherent fascination with the fitness lifestyle and the people who live it.  That's why we come here, that's why we do our site Bodysport.com.  Now we can see if exposing this little world to a larger audience can help create some good things for the people involved
