Prop 8 vote is getting ugly
« on: October 22, 2008, 06:34:58 AM »
More of the REAL news that the MSM refuses to let you hear about.  ::)

The intolerance of the tolerant

Oct 14, 2008
In a violent display of intolerance, an opponent of Proposition 8 attacked and seriously injured a man who was volunteering on Sunday for the initiative to define marriage as between and a man and a woman.

Prop. 8 supporter, Jose Nunez, 37, was brutally assaulted while waiting to distribute yard signs to other supporters of the initiative after church services at the St. Stanislaus Parish in Modesto.

The assailant grabbed about 75 signs and yelled at Nunez accusingly, "What do you have against gays!" Although Nunez replied that he had nothing against gays, he was attacked anyway. The assailant punched Nunez in the left eye and ran off with the signs.
Nunez, his eye dripping with blood, walked into a building on church grounds where a fellow parishioner called 911. Police and paramedics responded to the scene.

Nunez, who suffered a bloody eye, serious wounds to his face, and a scratch to his knee, was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital where he received 16 stitches under his eye.
According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the attack shows that their opponents are not as tolerant and open-minded as they would like voters to believe.

"It's outrageous that the No campaign calls themselves the voice of tolerance and moderation and wants people to feel bad for supporting Prop. 8. There was nothing tolerant or moderate about beating up Jose," said ProtectMarriage.com-Yes on 8 press secretary Chip White. "Clearly the man who attacked Jose is intolerant of those who support traditional marriage," White added.

Ironically, Nunez, a native of Mexico, became an American citizen two months ago and plans to vote for the first time in November. Nunez, who is recovering and in good spirits, said the attack only strengthens his resolve to help ensure that Prop. 8 passes.
"The other side wants to intimidate us, but we can't stop standing up for traditional marriage. I may be bloody and bruised, but I'm not giving up. Protecting traditional marriage is just too important for our kids," said Nunez, the father of three children, ages 9, 5, and 3. "I don't want my kids taught in public school that same sex-marriage is the same as traditional marriage," Nunez added.
Nunez has been forced to take time off work to recover. It was not immediately clear how much Nunez will suffer in medical expenses and lost wages.

Anyone who is interested in contributing funds toward Nunez's medical expenses or lost wages may contact the campaign at info@protectmarriage.com.

maybe your party should stop these retarded props meant for nothing more than stirring a shitstorm of hate and anger just to get the rightwing voters out in force.  Not at all shocking that crap like this comes of it...  Amazing how this crap pops up each election but the outrage vanishes after the election... until the next election...

and the attacker might actually have been his accomplice!!!  Nothing like this story to really get them mad and to the polls, shit happens all the time and people are suckers...

Perhaps you are reading the article incorrectly.  The hate and anger is coming from those of your mindset, bro.  I can site many more incidents like this one.  How can you be "tolerant" of everything if you're trying to beat up anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion.  This is no better than the anti-abortionists who bomb clinics.  Your argument is very weak, HC.

Have they arrested this as-hole who committed battery?

Ironic how certain people who are passionate about tolerance or peace use violet means.  Shows the shortcomings of human nature I suppose.  Still is outrageous and ridiculous.

no, I didn't read it wrong, you read me wrong.  How can my argument be weak?  It's based on fact.
1. things like the gay issue come out strong during the election and then relitively go away  until the next election.

2. dirty tricks are nothing new in politics.  Happens on several levels and happens all the time...

If this was an attack from some pro gay marriage dude and it might be, shame on him.  I'm just saying it doesn't surpise me that shit like this happens when the shit is stirred and when you stir the shit just to get pissed off righties to the voting booth, well then...  I'm not shocked shit like this happens, you get everyone's emotions up... it's kind of a no brainer!

and dirty tricks do happen all the time, I wouldn't doubt for a second that this guy and a buddy created the story to beef up emotions even more.

LOL WOW- Hugo exposes himself as a lunatic liberal hypocrite once again. So basically, if you disagree with someones opinion you can be physically assaulted? Interesting tolerant philosophy.

Let me understand-- If your against abortion, can you blow up an abortion clinic? Well Hugo would say no, because republicans are against abortion. But, can a pro abortion advocate kill a peaceful pro life protestor? Yes. Of course. He should have known better.

When Columbia University invited the leader of the minutemen to speak to students about border safety, the stage was rushed and his speech was stifled. Not to mention people on stage were assaulted and spit on. But when the President of Iran shows up, we should give him an open forum to spew propaganda-  Lets make sure the protestors are put behind metal gates and exercise their free speech right peacefully.

You seem to be of the same mindset of the Orwellian marxist pigs that run our countries Universities. Free speech for everyone, unless you disagree with us.

Where did I say you can be physically assaulted for disagreeing with the left?  I said above, shame on him if it's true did I not?  I said I understand how stuff like this happens, I did not say I condone it!  big difference!  One is saying I get the workings of how and why emotions comes to blows and the other is saying it's ok.  come on man, think george, think!!! and I point out that dirty tricks happen, this may not even be the true story!  how does any of this make me a hypocrite?

Prop 8 is nothing more than an attention ploy by pro-gay interests.

Gays in California already have equal rights, they want special rights and they are claiming any attempt to expose or oppose them as 'hate mongering' or bigotry...

either i'm understanding it wrong or you are.  I thought it would reverse rights, why would they want that?  I don't think they were the ones out collecting sigs to get it on the ballot.

Based on your reply, I believe my first assessment is right.  HC, believe it or not, these issues are at the forefront for many people.  You can call them evangelicals or the moral majority (right now it's the moral minority).  This is much bigger than you think.  You might not see it, or want to see it if you could, but this isn't something that comes up every election period.  There's a battle going on between those election years.  You just might not choose to be involved with it.  It's a constant battle.

Hugo, are you fucking retarded? Seriously. The fact that this proposition is even gaining steam and has the potential to pass means that a large number of California democrats are supporting it, considering the state is democrat heavy. Oh wait, you douche bag Dems are sooooooo much more righteous and better than the douche bag Repubs.  ::)

are you saying dirty tricks don't happen in elections?  lol...  I didn't say this is absolutely the case, but it might be and it's very important to consider because it DOES happen...  We're not talking a huge conspiracy... it only takes 2 in this case lol...

Yes dirty tricks happen in elections.  But I don't see a conspiracy around every corner, including Joe the Plumber and the story in this thread.  You queried whether both are part of a Republican conspiracy.  You've said that about other stories too.

Your first response seems to indicate that it's the Repubs leading the charge on this, when the fact that this vote has even the slightest chance of passing means that there are a number of democrats supporting it.

"Your party." Your douche bag democrat buddies are no better for even wanting this.  ;)

a little odd with the keating relation... I'm not the one who posted it, I responded.  Joe doesn't matter anyway, everything he said turned out to be bullshit so it's a non issue... If they did conspire with Joe, they picked a seriously bad plan lol..  As far as these kind of election antics, destroying signs, vandalizing etc, you should suspect it might not be what it seems.  It happens way more than you think.  don't try to make it sound like a couple clowns is in the same league as some big government conspiracies lol..

Proponents
The ProtectMarriage.com[17] organization sponsored the initiative that placed Proposition 8 on the ballot and continues to support the referendum. Other notable supporters include Republican State Senator Tom McClintock and 20 other Republican State Senators and Assemblymembers.[42]

Republican presidential nominee and U.S. Senator John McCain released the following statement of support for the proposed constitutional amendment:

I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman [...]. I do not believe judges should be making these decisions."[43]

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has released a video in which he emphasizes his support to "defend and protect marriage" and to "overrule the judges" by "vot[ing] yes on Proposition 8."[44]

Religious organizations that support Proposition 8 include the Roman Catholic Church [45], Knights of Columbus [46], Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America[47], The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints [48][49][50], a group of Evangelical Christians led by Pastor Jim Garlow (head of Skyline Church in San Diego) and Pastor Miles McPherson (former San Diego Charger and head of the Rock Church in San Diego[51]), the Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple in Hacienda Heights (who also has been reported to be freely distrbuting fliers in support of the proposition),[52] American Family Association, Focus on the Family[53]and the National Organization for Marriage.[54]

The California Catholic Conference has released a statement in support of the proposition. The Catholic Bishops of California have stated that "by drawing on the revelation of Scripture, the wisdom of Tradition, the experience and insights of holy men and women as well as on what can be known by reason alone," they have decided "that marriage is the ideal relationship between a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and the continuation of the human race."[55]

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormon Church, has publicly supported the proposition and encouraged their membership to support it, by asking its members to donate money and volunteer time.[56]

The Grossmont Union High School District in San Diego County, California has publicly voted on Proposition 8. The Governing Board voted 4-0 to endorse the addition to the California State Constitution.[57]

Professional skateboarders Brian Sumner and Christian Hosoi support the proposition and recorded video segments "encouraging [people] to vote yes on proposition 8."[58]

Professional football players Jacques Cisera and Mark Miller support the proposition and "marriage between a man and a woman."[58]

The Asian Heritage Coalition held a rally in support of Proposition 8 in downtown San Diego on October 19th, 2008. The people at the rally wore red shirts to show support for traditional marriage because red is considered good luck for marriages in China where brides often wear red. The coalition argued that "most Asians don't support same-sex marriage." Grace Lee, chairwoman of the coalition, said her group wanted to show people that Asians are very much interested in the passage of Proposition 8 based on their teaching and history of its cultures.[59]
