Palin - $150K on clothing!!
« on: October 22, 2008, 07:49:30 AM »
And I thought "Real Americans" bought their clothes from Walmart, Sears, Target, etc.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html

I don't think Barack or Biden have spent that much on clothing in their whole lives for their
families (Michelle shops @ Target).  And they call the Obama's elitist?

And Edwards $400 haircut now seems a bit paltry in comparison.

Agree.

She can't though

It's all over the news - the repubs spent $150,000 of donations on her and her families clothes and her makeup, wasn't her money 1 bit.

Yes NT that is normal correct, they normally get political donations to outfit themself in $150,000 worth of clothes.

Just regular working folk stuff there, nothing abnormal.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.

Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing.

Yes, and they have dug through it all - and found 2 stores that obviously were for her family; one a baby store and one a mens store plus $3,000 a week to her makeup artist

Nice to see the peoples donations being used so wisely outfitting a tiny baby and husband in designer gear, and $3,000k a week for makeup.

Oh good grief.  I rank this up there with the Palin faked her pregnancy stories.  Who cares how much the woman spends on clothes and makeup?  Talk about desperation.

If she has broken no law, I could care less.  I find it comical how desperate people are to criticize the woman.

Funny that just in another thread you guys told how the donations to Obama was his money because people GAVE it to him, for him to decide LOL.

Talk about hypocrisy, besides, when you are running at this caliber you gotta be 110% including the family...it's not like they are out of the spotlight.

I doubt that if she came wearing some Gap shit like your girlfriend you wouldn't laugh at her....people will always find something negative to say no mater what  :-\

I agree, I am sure the electorate cares deeply what a 20 week old baby wears, and probably donated with that in mind.

Well of course not, you wouldn't, not meant snidely btw.

Many people however could find it highly amusing to run on being a regular mom who wants to cut spending to the people, while simultaneously spending their money they donated to outfit your entire family in $150,000 worth of designer clothes ;D

Personally, I wouldn't mind a $150k shopping spree, so go girl I say. Soak em.

Soak who?  If her its her money, it really isn't a story.  It also doesn't change the fact that she pulled herself up by her bootstraps.  She worked hard for her money and if she wants to spend it on clothes, who really cares?

I hate shopping BTW.  I absolutely refuse to go shopping with my wife.  Makes me nauseous to even think about it.  :)

Once again, you display your inability to make it past the first paragraph of an article.
The controversy lies in the fact that the money was NOT hers- it came from donations to the campaign. The sheer  exorbitant cost of the clothing, coupled with the fact that campaign advisors were not sure of the legality of the purchases along with the fact that she has apparently been charging the state of Alaska for what have essentially been family vacations just highlight what appears to a pattern of fiscal impropriety.

I don't think discussing this shows that anyone is "desperate". This woman is a god damned car wreck.

BayGBM made the mistake of bolding this when he posted the story, so I guess that explains why you missed it.
