World Series Game 3
« on: October 25, 2008, 11:20:05 PM »
I don't know if anybody outside of Philly or Tampa stayed up for the entire thing but what a game. Def. one of the best I've ever witnessed. Fucking umps are terrible (for both sides) this series.

I have no dog in this fight, but I'm glad that the Phillies ended up winning, since two of Tampa's runs came on a blown call on Crawford's bunt in the 7th.  It was an incredible defensive play, and to have it taken away by the umps really sucked.  It didn't cost Philly the game, but it did cost Moyer the win.

Yeah. I don't get too worked up about blown calls but that one led directly to a run.

That tag out on Rollins last night at 3rd was a farce. Tagged on his ass plain as day.

With that said I think either the Rays are choking, which I don't believe. Or they believed their own hype. They seem to have a look about them that seems like they can't believe they aren't winning.

The hype was legitimate.  The team won 97 games, has great SP, and a monster 3-4-5 in their lineup.

They're not choking, it's just baseball happening.  Given the cyclical nature of hitting, pitching, etc...good teams just lose games sometimes.   It's one of the reasons that I hate the ALDS - a 3 out of 5 is a stupid way for a team to be eliminated after a successful 162 game season.

I wouldn't write Tampa off yet, either.  They could easily win the next Kazmir and Shields games and get to a Game 7.

I should clarify the hype part. To me it seems like they think they are destined to win it all. They still had 7 games ahead of them. There doesn't seem to be any air in their sails.

Oh, this I totally believe.

I also think that this kind of attitude is what a team like Tampa needs, because it makes them less susceptable to any distractions that come with the WS.

Though, it does look like they're going to learn what any Yankee fan and sox fan have known for years:  Getting to the playoffs guarantees nothing.  It's very, very hard to win a WS.

Well we're averaging a WS appearance every 18 years it seems so getting to the playoffs is happiness to some extent. haha

yeah because the 5 sacks on Rothlesberger to go with the four INT's had nothing to with it.... ::) ::) ::)

Get real. They were outplayed in the fourth quarter by the defending champs, plain and simple. Even if that safety never happened, they were still punting the ball away to NY who would have taken over in good field position, regardless. That safety had nothing to do with the Steelers losing. It merely tied the game.

Denial is not a river in Egypt, Earl.

we were ahead until that safety, which ended up giving them 9 points and all the momentum

Punting from their own endzone and giving the ball back to NY with good field position wouldn't have changed the game? They were only down by two and they would have only needed to drive 20 yards to take the lead with a field goal. NY already had the momentum before that safety happended, in my opinion.

Wait until the Ravens play the Giants, Earl. We'll show you how it's done. 8)

even if they kicked another field goal, we only would've been down by 1 and that affects the way a team plays

a safety is always a game changing play, i think we were out of it mentally after that

i just wish we were healthy and santonio didn't smoke weed in his car, and imo the holding call on willie colon was bullshit and it cost us a TD

You gotta love Steelers fans. All they do is cry about lack of respect. If they have a bad game or lose they ALWAYS do the following:

Refuse to even acknowledge a game was on. You are usually met with "oh yeah, the game" or "wait the steelers. Yeah well ya know...."

They also like to cite every instance the refs wronged them or injuries.

Like clockwork. They lost to the champs. No shame in that. They also lost to the Eagles and there's a lot of shame in that because we raped them.
