Do you make frequent backups of your system partition?
Do you have a virus scanner installed?
Do you have a personal firewall or at least the Windows firewall installed?
Do you update your windows frequently?
Do you know what "adaware" or "hijackthis" is?
Do you open emails or attachments in emails from people you don't know?
Do you often go to websites with "questionable" content?

Just a few starting points.

yea, your computer got the crabs. You probably got it from a porn site, install a decent anti virus and anti spy ware. And stay away from the naughty pages on the net...  ;D

Your computer doesn't have a virus. It just hates being around you. Do the computer a favour and off yourself

The more people buy a mac, the more it will get attacked, so you might want to reconsider that recommendation in your own interest. :D

If you are on a budget, the Macbook is a less expensive alternative (than the Macbook Pro)  http://www.apple.com/macbook/

That is true.  The standard mac mouse does not have right & left click.  Old Macs used to to have one button and the laptops still have one button, but the desktop Mac mouse has several "buttons" that you can configure.  Here is the control panel for the desktop mouse (picture).  Of course, if you like, you can always replace the standard mouse with a third party mouse that has two, four, or even five buttons.  On both the laptops and desktops these mice plug into the USB port.  These add on mice come with software that allows you to configure each button to do different functions.

Note: the lack of a right click does not mean the Mac can't do what you usually use the right click for.  The Mac can do anything a PC can do (and much more); you just have to learn how to do it.

If this laptop is going to be your primary computer than I recommend the MacBook Pro. If it will be a secondary computer then the less expensive Macbook is the better option.  That's my set up; I only use the laptop when I am in bed or when I am traveling.  The desktop MacPro is my primary computer.  I do not recommend the Macbook Air!  It is a vanity product and not a good value.  :(

http://www.apple.com/mac/whichmacbook/

The trackpad on the new Mac laptops is brand new.  It is made of glass and uses the same "touch technology" used in the iPhone so the control panel for it will likely be different from the one I've shown here.

You should visit your local Apple retail store to sample these laptops in person. Find the store near you here http://www.apple.com/retail/

Example?

I too am an avid Mac user. I program for Windows at work and it's the only time I use a PC. Mac's are far better built. They can do anything windows can do, they dont suffer from dll hell, they dont suffer from spyware/viruses/malware

Music production is far more efficient. Using multiple sound cards is possible. G3 macs can run the latest os. Bring me a 10 year old PC that can run Vista properly.

I agree with the better built OS (a unix-clone will always have some advantages over Windows). They can theoretically do anything Windows can do. However, practically, far less native Software is available (which is the only distinction that makes sense nowadays). The only reason why there are less attacks on Macs is the small number of users compared to Windows.

AFAIK, multiple sound cards are also no problem in Windows. I'm running Vista on our test PCs in the office, which are at least 8 years old. With enough RAM, no problem.

Apples don't crash!

That's definitely not true.
As long as you don't have malicious drivers or corrupt hardware, Windows 2000/XP/Vista won't crash either.

Multiple sound cards on Windows doesn't work properly. Try it out. Try recording the input from sound card a, listening to it outputted through soundcard a + b together...doesn't work.

Windows will/can crash for no apparent reason. I develop on completely clean machines that crash for no reason. I also develop for the mobile side and this is twice as bad.

I had a development laptop for work that came with Vista preinstalled. New unit w/ 1 gig of ram and it really struggled with basic operation. I have a g3 500mhz ibook that runs leopard perfectly.

Windows has numerous security flaws. It takes a long time for anyone to patch windows. As soon as a flaw is discovered with Mac there are security releases out immediately.

I am looking at this from the point of view of someone who has been using 3 different OS's in both work/home environments.
Rated
1. Mac
2. *nix of any sort
3. Windows

I have been using Windows since Windows 2.0 and Mac since OS9.
My first Linux box ran Mandrake 5 or 6

I have been programming on Windows for about 10 years and would rather not have to use a Windows machine ever again - work dictates that I do however. I don't have problems with spyware/viruses etc its not about that. It's not a secure, sturdy operating system.

I have also been developing Software as well as Drivers for Windows (for as long as it exists). My experience is different. It's true that you have to struggle a lot more with a new PC. But that's mainly because of new hardware and driver issues, not so much because of Windows. My experience is that as soon as you find a stable hardware/driver combination of all components, the PC runs 100% stable (Windows 2000 and up). I agree that finding such an assembly is a lot harder than with Macs, which only come in a small number of different types.

However, the original question was not related to stability but to functionallity. I can't see how a Mac "does more" than a PC. I can't really comment on your example with the soundcards, since I have never tried that. Any other examples?

NaturalWonder83, I posted in this thread to talk to you--not to debate wavelength over Macs and PCs.  You said your PC laptop was giving you trouble and I pointed you in the direction of a Mac laptop--a computer I own that never gives me trouble.  Obviously, I wouldn't own Macs myself if I didn't think they were the best.  If you have a Mac friend ask him or her to visit your local Apple store with you and play with the hardware in person, show you the finer points of the OS, etc.  I prefer to shop with a knowledgeable friend because you can take your time asking your friend questions without the sales pitch that usually comes from a retail clerk.

Mac users do not hate our computers; we love them.  I don't know many PC users who can say that.

If you have one or more specific questions feel free to send me a private message.

We have gone a little OT, that's for sure. :)

But I would never advise anyone to buy a new PC (or Mac) just because he possibly has adware or a virus. I'm pretty sure that even as a Mac user, you should be aware of virus scanners, firewalls, basic network security, etc.

NW83, your PC is giving you trouble not because it's a PC but because you are not informed about network security. Please also feel free to PM me, if you have any questions in this regard.

And yes, I love my 100% stable, custom made PC.
