Fighter of the year 2008
« on: October 26, 2008, 08:14:00 PM »
We've talked about fight of the year, but who do you guys think is fighter of the year?
I 'll start by throwing Eddie Alvarez' name in the mix.

Alvarez had a great year,  Josh Thompson had a great year too,  Anderson was doing great until his last performance.  You can't neglect BJ or GSP either.

Agreed, Bj is on a pretty good streak as is GSP.

Thiago Alves. 7 wins in a row. 3 of them in 2008 against parisyan (tko knee and punches), matt hughes (flying knee and punches) and josh koscheck (who is ranked 2nd best welterweight in the world on sherdog)
hasnt lost since 2006.

Anderson Silva.
No one is really close IMO.
I didn't like the way he fought Cote, but the rest of his year has been legendary.

Btw, his fight against Cote - the real problem was imo that Cote didn't present a real challenge and Silva was stuck with toying with him until finishing him off.

As for the rest of the year - Silva has dominated like very few fighters before him.

Anderson got a good 3 fights in this year so far, where as BJ, GSP and Josh Thomson just fought twice each. I'd like to see those guys fight more often, say every 4 months at least.

Part of being the champ is you have to wait for the contenders to sort themselves out (unless were talking about the heavyweights, theyre all jacked up right now)
