How old were you when you started going to classes?
CCD starts before first communion (though it's been long time so maybe that wasn't actually CCD but some precursor)
Confirmation is ~ 8th grade and is a very big deal (assuming one actually takes it seriously)
I noticed early on that the Church would prefer you just shut up and not ask too many questions
