Author Topic: Guys, some tips on what to say to my boss before going to rehab. (Read 2803 times)

I really really like my job and it would be totally awesome if I could have it when I got out of rehab in two months. Any sugggestion? I have internet access in there once a day for 2 hours the first two weeks and for the next 6 weeks im allowed my laptop so I can use it during free time hours of 3pm until 10 pm.. Should I volunteer to do research or other assignments online for free while Im in there?
My boss and I get along great and he is a really nice guy, he has a drinking problem himself so I guess he can kind of relate to me.

Any tips or advie would be greatly appreciated.

i think thats good advice. if you've been functioning well enough that he keeps you employed, he should look forward to your improved performance once you clean out.

If you're a good employee, and you both get on, then I'm sure if you just explain the situation openly, and ask for his help when you get out, then he'll be OK with you.

Just don't say "When I get out, we can catch up over a beer"!

Also ask him what you can do to help make it happen. Don't start volunteering to work for free imo tho. You never know, he might offer you 1/2 pay to do research while in there.

Make a list of all the dirt you have on him. All the shady shit - drinking at work, cheating on wife, all that.

Write it on a piece of paper, and put it in your pocket.

Walk in, tell him you need time off, with a smile, and ask if that will be a problem.

If he say yes, smile, put the note on the desk, and walk out.

He will chase you down in the hallway begging you to come back after your break.

Does he already know you're an alcoholic? If not, why bring it up? Even more of a reason to fire you.

I would think that your boss would look upon this type of situation in a positive manner, especially since you are trying to better yourself which in turn will also benefit your job performance. If this does not work and you get fired, make 100% sure that you have no chance of getting your job back. Then when the time is at it's best sneak up on your boss say when he is getting in his car after work and take a rusty wooden knife and plunge it deep into his eye socket multiple times while simultaneously screaming "911 was an inside job!!" This should do the trick, not at getting your job back, but at the very least to make you feel better at your newly unemployed status. Not to mention the fact that it will give you an opportunity to tell a pretty neat story to your grandchildren one day as you guys sip on your favorite alcoholic beverage.

Beat the fuck out of him before you go in. When you get out tell him you had anger management treatment. May not work but it will keep me entertained.

Muss be up front with him. and its against the law to fire someone because they are an addict, its considered a disease and you cant be fired for it. same as in you cant fire someone because the have cancer. and leaving for rehab for two months follows that law. my brother had to do the same thing.
to be safe though so they dont just make up shit to fire you i would try and collect all your evaluations they gave you. they should all be positive being that youre good friends with your boss. hold them to prove that your performance was up to par or above it preceding your departure. again they can not fire you because youre an addict trying to get help

2 months of rehab for an alcohol addiction? That's a bit extreme. Take some antabuse, and get on with your life.
