This is the problem I have with conservatives Joe. Some things have NOTHING to do with being a conservative or a Democrat but with the fact that Insurance companies (Health Insurance) have escaped any real penalties for out and out discriminatory practices. There’s an entire group of people being discriminated against by insurance companies yet conservatives want to just call that group lazy. McCain offers a tax cut and says “that would make health insurance both affordable and accessible.

Both statements are false because the insurance companies will NOT insure self employed people with pre-existing conditions. The statement just tells me how utterly clueless McCain is on the topic.

You're right, this is a problem and IMO, this issue does not address it and it is not fixed by either candidate with either plan.

The issue for this should be reforming and enforcing insurance regulations, fair practice, etc.

Now with Obama's ultimate goal, health care for all, this does not fix the problem...all this does is damage the level of health care we get. Sure, more people have health care plans, but not good ones. It lowers the rate of quality.

With McCain, sure, if people have more money for some they would be able to finally afford decent health care, but as you said, some would still be cut off due to insurance company practices...but that is another issue that should be addressed separately and it's one that should be addressed by whichever candidate wins; McCain or Obama.

...and I speak as someone who is self-employed and who's family is made up almost of entirely self-employed people...always has been.

Obama's socialist definition of redistribution of wealth actually is welfare.......he's just making us pay more into it.

No one posting in this thread will pay higher taxes with Obama.

Likely no one on this entire forum will pay higher taxes with Obama.

Yes, I love it when someone tells me I have to give my money to lazy people.

Coach yesterday you made a complete little fool of yourself by stating that taxes were based on the sales of a business rather than the profit. This proves beyond doubt that you are a fraud and your business success stories are fairytales. I'm surprised you don't follow your friend Moosejay and vanish with the shame of this exposure.

Are you willing to have him cut 25% of our defence budget AND confiscate more of your money to give to someone who doesn't even pay taxes?

Our Defense budget is 1000000000000000% overspent, so cutting it 25% will still make it 100000000000% over where it should be.

Id say pulling down 20 grand a month is considered rich.  When you make more in 2 months than the avg family makes in a year that is rich.

It all depends on where you live.

If you pull $250k in states like Alabama you're rich.

In a high cost of living area such as the DC Metro area you're upper middle class and getting hammered by the AMT.

And what are the numbers of working families pulling down $250k+ in Bama vs. working families in high cost of living states like California, Maryland, or Virgina?

Republicans have been re-distrubuting the wealth since the early 1980's.

Reagan raised payroll taxes specifically to create a surplus which he then borrowed to fill in the gap in his budget that was created by his tax cuts.

translation -  increase tax on the working man/woman (and make him/her believe it's going towards his/her retirement benefits) and give it to the wealthy. Some Repug pundits have even suggested that the US should default on this debt it owes to the working class

That's REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH REPUBLICAN STYLE

Right. They BOTH do it.

It's my opinion that McCain is just as much the "socialist" as he claims Obama is.

AMT needs to be fixed or even better just scrubbed all together.

This is a one f'd up mess

Gore vowed not to do it and was mocked by the very same people who now claim they won't get a penny when they are ready to retire.

Yes it is. It screws more and more working families every year and they've done nothing to fix it - just attempts to placate the public.

Each year it becomes harder and harder for the government to break away from it too. $800 billion (and rising) is a hell of a crack addiction.

Obama doesn't want to spend so much money tossing folks in jail for smoking pot.

That would save billions in itself.

Obama doesn't think that so many black people should be on welfare anymore than anyone else does. Having so many people on welfare isn't good for the country or for society and isn't acceptable. Obama will make it easier for people to get OFF welfare on their own.

I agree with you but how exactly is he doing that?

You don't think giving income tax breaks to those that pay no income tax isn't another form of welfare?
