This is the problem I have with conservatives Joe. Some things have NOTHING to do with being a conservative or a Democrat but with the fact that Insurance companies (Health Insurance) have escaped any real penalties for out and out discriminatory practices. There’s an entire group of people being discriminated against by insurance companies yet conservatives want to just call that group lazy. McCain offers a tax cut and says “that would make health insurance both affordable and accessible.
Both statements are false because the insurance companies will NOT insure self employed people with pre-existing conditions. The statement just tells me how utterly clueless McCain is on the topic.
You're right, this is a problem and IMO, this issue does not address it and it is not fixed by either candidate with either plan.
The issue for this should be reforming and enforcing insurance regulations, fair practice, etc.
Now with Obama's ultimate goal, health care for all, this does not fix the problem...all this does is damage the level of health care we get. Sure, more people have health care plans, but not good ones. It lowers the rate of quality.
With McCain, sure, if people have more money for some they would be able to finally afford decent health care, but as you said, some would still be cut off due to insurance company practices...but that is another issue that should be addressed separately and it's one that should be addressed by whichever candidate wins; McCain or Obama.
...and I speak as someone who is self-employed and who's family is made up almost of entirely self-employed people...always has been.
