Obama needs to
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:57:36 AM »
- Make Colin Powell a part of his cabinet.

- Do a much better job than Clinton of appointing the rest of his cabinet, e.g., no Les Apsin, Jocelyn Elders, Lani Guinier (sp?) types.

- Avoid Clinton's mistakes and stay away from the controversial subjects early in his campaign.  Remember that Clinton started by trying to end the ban on homosexuals in the military then had Hillary do her closed door healthcare reform meetings.  Both were disasters.  Obama should stay away from both of those issues and abortion early on.

- Tell Biden to shut up.

- Move to the center.

- Put Stevens and Ginsberg on a strick training, diet, and supplement program.   :)

If he doesn't govern like a fiscal conservative, or least a moderate, he will guarantee a one term presidency.

U guys realize that Bill had to govern to the center....that the repubs controled congress for most of his terms and were able to block the bs, when they didn't.

HH6,

Perot was also a factor in making Clinton come to the center, aside from the votes taken from Bush.

Also, I'm sure you'll recover.

This isn't nearly as bad as the Pats losing.  :)

The contract with America days... what happened to the republicans aside from letting the religious right take over?

They have no clear leader and no clear agenda.

what makes you think Powell wants it?  Sounds like occasional adviser is all that he was willing to sign on for.  The guy has put his life in, I get the feeling he wants a few quiet years after a life of service.

His interview.  He said he has no desire to serve again, but if the president calls, he has to at least listen.

But the point was Obama needs Powell.  He should make him Sec. of Defense.

We need a guy who understands the current war and understands fully the other threats we face and won't be a stoodge to the more liberal elements in any Obama admin. Powell had his shot. They need new blood. Gates should stay on for atleast a one year transition. We can't afford a Les Aspin debackle.

They have no clear leader and no clear agenda.

The republican party needs to be rescued from itself. We need a balanced, representative Govt.

I'm not saying abortions should be on every corner or that RU486 needs to be handed out with school lunches. Only that the national party should be more inclusive and address religious concerns with community activism. Please note, by community activism I mean education, education, education and education to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The "everything is fine and we don't need any changes" message just didn't speak to enough voters.

We need a guy who understands the current war...

After a few hundred top secret briefings I hope President Obama gets to see the bigger picture but does find an approach that doesn't include another invasion/occupation.

that would be a good call imo but what about the right?  They've already labeled Powell a traitor and not a true republican?

Who is "the right"?  I haven't heard any conservative leader call Powell a traitor or not a true Republican.

In any event, not my view, so I really don't care.
