What if?
« on: November 06, 2008, 10:58:04 PM »
Let me preface with I sincerely do hope Obama is successful as president. Even though I am not an Obama supporter by any means, now that he has been elected to the presidency, wishing him failure would be idiotic on my part. I would want any president to be successful because that means success for America which in turn means success for me and my family.

My question; what if Obama's presidency is a failure? Will his supporters blame someone else, will they find a republican scape goat to pin it on?

Why I ask; I have never seen a candidate get so much praise before he's actually done anything. He has made a lot of promises, big promises; yet within these promises he hasn't said much of anything at all.

There was a woman who was on the news a day or so before the election who was interviewed on why she thought Obama was the right man for the job. She said, "I am so glad this day is almost here. When Obama becomes president I won't have to worry about my job any more, I want have to worry about money or if we have groceries. I know my kids will be taken care of and we'll have everything we're supposed to." First off, I'm not making this up, these were this woman's words...Michelle Malkin called her "Peggy The Moocher" LOL! The best part of this ladies comments were "everything we deserve" such a big problem with so many peoples state of mind in the U.S.

The reason I brought this woman up, for the most part, even though most may not say it as ridiculously as this "Moocher" did, this is what people seem to actually believe, that Obama is in fact the very right hand of God and the answer to everything in our world.

So if he fails as president, what will people who support him say? Again, I do not wish him failure because I do not wish disaster on myself.

I figured some of you guys here could answer this since their seem to be so many Obamaites on this board. Which brings me to another thought I brought up in a different thread on the steroid board.

"Something else that I've noticed for a while and find interesting about getbig.com as a whole including the steroid board. I know I am one of very few on this board who is a pretty strong conservative and hard line GOP guy...most here seem to be either sort of slightly left of center or outright left all the way. The reason I say I find that interesting...how is that the way it is on getbig that almost everyone here is at least somewhat of a leftist? Other boards I frequent are much more in line with what the election showed us Tuesday night. Yes, Obama won big in the electoral count, and that's what matters, but when it comes to the popular vote, it was very evenly split, with Obama only having a small advantage...it was by no means a land slide. It's just humorous to me that on a bodybuilding related board, so many leftist individuals ended up on the same board, lol!"

Course many will try to claim they are independents...seems to be the new craze. But I believe in independents as much as I do santa clause, lol!

well, I do think it is dumb to preordain Obama a success before he has started.  It seems like a lot of people are doing that.  I did hear the woman and her video was posted here too.  I don't think she was talking about a handout.  I think she was talking about fixing our problems.  All the problems we're having translate to the ordinary person in the things she mentioned.  They are putting huge expectations on Obama no doubt and I think this is why he had to put some realistic timeframe on things right after he won.  The way some people were talking, Obama was going to show up day one and wave a wand and say fixed lol...

I thought Obama won more of the popular vote than Bush did in 2000 and 2004, I'll recheck but I thought that.

Bush 2000 47.9%
Bush 2004 50.7%
Obama 2008 52.5%

In 2004, remember, they called that a mandate. electoral vote 286 to 251 with 50.7% for Bush...

I think he did too. My point in talking about the popular vote in regards to this board, it seems most here feel that a strong majority of America thinks Obama is the right man for the job; when in fact this just isn't true. He got a little over 50% of the popular vote, meaning that of the voting population, America is pretty much split down the middle. But if you did not live in the U.S. and came to getbig.com you would think that nearly 90% of America is in Obama's camp.

That's just it, I think most people do think it will be pure magic once he steps into office. I believe that's what this woman thinks too.

Obama won the election, but he did so in a manner that blows my mind and is so confusing to me. When I look at Obama supporters (not all but most) I see sheep; I see someone dangling shiny objects in front of children to lead them to follow; I see a fat kid being led by a trail of doughnuts with promises of more doughnuts at the end of the line.

Maybe Obama will end up being the greatest thing that ever happened to the U.S. but most who put him into this position of power did not do so by using their head, by making an educated decision. Most did so by being allured by promises of utopia.

if he fails americans will call him out on it. black or white. I'm certain of that.

I'm not so sure about that. This man has been labeled a god by the media and the savior himself by the general public who support him. If he had the chance to be supreme emperor his supporters would jump all over this. Because of this, I do not believe that if he does fail, that his supporters will bring any negative words to the table. It's as if they have already developed unconditional love towards the man.

Well i agree on the whole that he is regarded as a "god", the circumstances here at home paved the way for it...which leads me to believe he could never, ever do as piss poor job as bush has done.

Only the right wing press and blogs use this god meme.  Savior, perhaps to save us from those currently in power who seem to use the Constitution for toilet paper.

First off, ...congratulations. Yours is one of the few sane responses to the election results that I've seen coming from self-professed hard line GOP guys.

I don't think it odd at all. There are many, many conservatives here who by outward appearances may seem leftist. They simply recognized that from the candidates presented, Obama was made of more presidential material, ...and unlike many other boards, people here actually took the time to discuss issues, and separate the fact from the fiction, rather than simply jumping onto a bandwagon for any party.

For this, I will particularly give credit to Hugo & OzmO, for creating the type of atmosphere from which an exploration of ideas could take place, ...and honourable mentions to both 240 and Coach. In their own unique ways, they've each managed to provide an interesting perspective, and just enough humour to lighten it all up, and keep us wanting more.
