Are we doomed to another great depression?

each day the news gets worse and worse.  While these guys are trying to define if or if not we're in a recession, I'm starting to wonder about a serious depression.  Thought?

A recession is a year of negative economic growth. It wouldn't be a debate soon enough.

The American definition takes into account job growth, spending etc not only a negative economic growth, meaning sometimes a recession in the US definition can't be labelled until after the event.

I have seen more than one person on TV go down the list for recession as met.  I think it would be clownish at this point not to admit we're in recession.  Now each day we get dramatically worse news.  I'm really starting to wonder if we're in for a serious depression.  I could go into my past CT here but everyone knows where I'm at there.
