Compare him to the likes of Arnie and he does have a wide waist. However, I am a huge Mentzer fan and think that he looks incredible in these shots.

his ribcage/wide shoulders made the illusion it looked smaller

if you want to talk about small waists of the golden era, sergio oliva was up there.

What other bodybuilder has ever looked like that? I know Zane had a great overhead vacuum pose too- but his was impressive more for the sharp cuts. Mentzer looks like an alien there- unreal.

Are you guys the same guys who rip on Heath for being narrow, become damn! Mentzer was narrow, do you know he was basically, 5'5" or something, someone post a pic of him next to Arnie Toothpick legs from 1980 and you can see mentzer's 5th place absense of taper/width/overall size. Great shape, wouldn't turn down his physique but he didn't look remarkable next to ther guys from the same time.
