President Bush is an excellent model for Obama
« on: November 12, 2008, 10:55:33 AM »
John Hinkeraker at Powerline writes:

Obama thinks he is a good talker, but he is often undisciplined when he speaks. He needs to understand that as President, his words will be scrutinized and will have impact whether he intends it or not. In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model; Obama should take a lesson from his example. Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been President, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated.

Maybe that guy doesn't have the proper appreciation for the word "uhhhhh"

Obama seems to use it about 21 times per sentence.

You mean like this ;D

lol
How many times has Bush said "Um or Uh?"?
Throughout his speaches, he's ALWAYS said "Umm" or "Uhhhh", so it's got to be over 400 times I think?

Go find any Bush interview or briefing and see how many times he says Uh and Um and Errr in just one session, lol... true, over and over and over...

Its not so much a gaff as it is that sarcastic smirk Bush gives at the end of a point he is trying to make.  Then the head nod too...not good body language.

Yes, Obama says "uhhh" a lot!  But overall, his body language is much better.  I don't like it when he gets into semi-preacher mode, like he has done at some of the campaign rallys.  I prefer the way he talks in a more formal setting.

neither is perfect, but I'd prefer a guy who says "uuuhhhh" while composing his next sentence (Obama) to a guy who just makes up words or tries to piece together thoughts incoherently (Bush... um, palin too)

Bush - the man who invented the word 'nukelear'.
He went to war against Iraq - and the English language.
