so are the Big 3 gonna go Bankrupt or what?
« on: November 20, 2008, 01:10:36 PM »
it seems a bit strange that congress would allow something that would be extremely harmful to an already terribly wounded economy to happen just because of the principle. but i dont really know much about this stuff.
what will happen if Gm, Ford, and Chrysler go under, and millions of more jobs are lost? do you this will happen or will they ultimately survive?

nah.  my guess is they will get their 25$Bil with some minor stipulations (which they are fighting).

Then they'll forge some 'crisis' and be back in 6 weeks asking for $75B.

They won't even say the 25 will be enough - because they don't want to have to sit thru the clip played next month when they come back.

Now they have to show Congress they have some kind of plan and the $25B will make them economically viable, or else it's no go.  I actually have to agree with Reid and Pelosi on this, it makes sense, and the Big 3 CEO's are the ones having to come up with the plan, not Congress, contrary to what Obama had been talking about on 60 Minutes last weekend, which did NOT make much sense to me:

I'm sure it's been said before but why can't the oil companies bail out the auto industry

It just seems that the CEO's of the Big 3 automakers are sooo out of touch.  I mean if you're really in financial dire straits wouldn't you want to have all your ducks in a row and come armed with some kind of a concrete plan BEFORE you fly on your private jet to Washington to plead your case before Congress?  But there they sit holding their hands out while they're barely able to competently answer the questions put to them.

I mean you'd think they would have the sense to come a little better prepared.  But like I said...  they get their multimillion-dollar salaries and it really appears they're so far removed from what's really going on.  It does not paint a pretty picture for how their companies must be being run.

It would also appear from Congress's line of questioning that they haven't been very sympathetic to the automakers' plight from the get-go.  Ya know...  Honda and Toyota are superior products, bottom line.  Maybe these guys just need to go the way of the dinosaur or else reinvent themselves and save their own skins.  But is it really worth $25B for them to try to maintain their status quo?

Id also like to see how they are going to change their current business models to make certain this shit doesnt happen again...wont ever happen though. I would feel alot better about bailing them out if they cut out the excess spending they are doing with exec perks and wages...again wont ever happen.

They will eventually get bailed out and I CALLED THIS SHIT months and months ago when the first talks of bailouts took place...only a matter of time.
