TOM PLATZ squatting -- Costa footage.
« on: November 22, 2008, 01:00:40 PM »
This was footage from when Tom was nowhere near his peak - thus the smaller size and lighter weights.

That being said, I post it here so others can see his form.

Notice how upright he is, how far his knees come forward. Apart from the "bouncing" this is TEXT BOOK BB squat form.

Tom made a comment during the filming of this that he was in his "off" stage.

Ignore the fact it's bouncy.

Look at his mechanics....    VERY few people can replicate/imitate that. Short femurs, VERY flexible ankles...probably very thich and strong knees from nature's side, hip flexibility, proper torso length etc.

Bottom line is..specialize in your natural abilities. I will never, ever squat anything like platz. Just as platz never did X as done by Pro Y.

Platz was BUILT for squatting.  He's your typical bodybuilding midget.  Marvin Eder was borderline midget as well and one of the strongest BBers ever.

doesn't matter how much it was... he's delivered. That's what matters.

Ps, Quaker, you know we discussed the video where he does 500 for 23 and I argued it was 525 lbs. My source for this is hatfield's book.  He also confirmed to me in an email that it was 525, and that there were extra plates on the end (not visible to the camera). You know as well as I do he has no interesting in lying on the matter.

almost anyone under 6 feet tall can attain that type of form, all it takes is practice.

Eder must've been one of the wildest genetic freaks ever. Sure, he had an ok physique at times...but his strength was just insane

Q I don't think that's true. What about length of femurs?  Sure, you can change ankle flexibility (atleast to SOME extent).

I doubt many people could attain that type of form.

why didn't the clown film himself training at his peak?!?! who wouldn't wanna see his crazy squats and crazy training intensity.

I mean if his hams looked like that...at that time and age after a long slim down for movies, WTH did he look like during 85-86....

those are crazy ass hamstrings.

Supposedly there is some footage of him training for I think that 81 Olympia. I think Coach knows more about this.

Muscle and Fitness Jan. 1984:

This is Tom Platz's Thigh routine according to Fred Hatfield:Tom begins doing leg extensions with 250 lbs for 8-12 reps and supersets them with leg curls with 150 lbs. This is done for four sets. Rests for 15 seconds and then does hack squats for three sets for 8-12 reps with 275 lbs. then he finshes with strict squats doing 8 reps with 635 lbs, 20 reps with 550 lbs, and finally 20 reps with 405 lbs. Incredible! Muscle and Fitness Jan, 1984.

tom was once asked if his knees ever hurt from squatting.

He replied, in a single word sentence: "never".

Tom also said his hardest set/sets of squats was doing 100 reps with 225.

Swede> he went completely off sauce and training following 86..to slim down for movies. I think this footage is from 91 or something...

and he made a small comeback in 93 or something. Don't know the dates.

So the reason for him struggling with the plates is he was in very little shape.
