He is big and hard , but in my opinion, lacks the kind of physique that will do well now in the pros

Markus is a nice guy and massive Bb who had his time. Look at the current crop of top pros and you will see that his kind of physiue is NOT what is currently winning.

Markus was always known for his huge pecs, delts, traps, and biceps.....but I think his quads are huge too...underrated bodypart for the german

Don't think the IFBB judges favor a certain type of physique. Jay only lost it this year cause his shape during the pre-judging was far from impressive, even compared to some of his lackluster performances. If any of the big, top 6 guys from the 90s competed today, they'd still be winning over their smaller counterparts. End of the day, it all boils down to who has the best combination of mass and conditioning and symmetry and all that onstage.

BTW, Wolf seems to be taking a break from his normal cycle / routine to let his body recover a bit. Good move.

Thomas Scheu,one of best veteran bodybuilders nowadays.I think he's in his 50s.
He is the overall-winner of the 2001 IFBB Men's World and still compete in amateur status.

(Thomas Scheu looks better than most of the 7 new pros of 2008 NPC Nationals)

Thomas is still looking great. He is ALWAYS in very good shape. I've seen him guest pose a lot of times and he always gives a good show. Nice classic posing routines and very aesthetic body. One of the alltime-best amateurs Germany has to offer.
