Here's one I never understood...Charles Atlas. He is so damn pudgy and underdeveloped, it is a wonder anyone ever purchased his "dynamic tension" program. Guess that is why he advertised in comics, to take advantage of gullible kids. (Not like today, when muscle building programs are sold to "grown ups" in legitimate bodybuilding magazine.

I am sure that I could develop more muscle using Monty Python's "dynamo tension" techniques than Atlas's program.

i have a bunch of those old bb mags and its nice to think everyone was nice and innocent back then but some of the ads were blatant lies, worse than today, especially the hair loss ones. Think of all the poor dudes who gave sent in their hard earned money. And Charles Atlas wasnt even the biggest or strongest guy around, just marketed himself better. Didnt really no much of anything.

and why did they wear their pants so high back then?

I remember those old Charles Atlas ads..."Oh, I wouldn't let it BOTHER you, little boy!" I would have bought the program, but I had already spent my money on x-ray glasses, Sea Monkeys, and that "spud gun" that didn't work.

If u realize that Atlas was around almost a century ago, maybe you might be able to begin to undesrtand why he had such impact.
