For you loading like that may be risky. Keep in mind there are a lot of other factors that could have attributed to this. First off you were on a ketogenic diet. Carb ups from what i know are suppose to be very mild on keto. I don't know if you had your fluids or salt restricted either. The key is to keep everything consistent so adding in new factors won't cause huge drastic changes. Keep salt and water high and you won't have to worry about them too much when you carb up. You seem pretty carb sensitive like a few people i know. I can keep eating like that and it takes me a couple of days till i fill out to where i look watery. You probably know more about this then i do though national champ
Definitely risky! I am carb sensitive for sure... I changed SO much SO quickly from adding/dropping carbs. We did a slow load with 20 g carbs from white rice just for the last 2 days. I kept salt in and water very high through Thurs night with prej at 4:30 PM Friday. Dropped liquids for Friday, except I had 9 oz. diet coke with my burger and fries before prej, which also has sodium in it.
After prej, I knew where I was in the lineup, so the diet was officially OVER. I had probably 2-3 liters of water Friday night, a champaigne cocktail with my nachos and bacon cheeseburger and fries for dinner, and then a large coffee with my Krispy Kremes Sat morning, and then a large diet coke with my pizza for lunch Sat, and then a large glass of water while I was getting ready for finals, snacking on chocolates, cookies, and other baked goodies. I also had ice cream and potato chips and cookies late night Friday night... I don't think that this would represent an "ideal" shit load, even if I was thinking of shitloading. The spill over was inevitable.
I would have to do it alot smarter than that - no chocolate, no dairy, and no liquid for sure. IF I decide to take this kind of approach, I would do a smaller "warmup" show and test it out a few weeks prior to the big show, whenever that may be.
Have you considered moving up to middle weight?
MW is definitely an option... and it's probably where I will end up over the long-term. It was suggested to me by one of the judges at Nationals. My issue is that I prefer CONDITIONING to mass for the most part, and I would have to pack on about 10 pounds of additional muscle in order to be a competitive MW with similar conditioning to what I brought to this show...I'm not very interested in putting that kind of size on, at least not very quickly. And I'm not terribly interested in showing up as a softer MW, just to have some additional size.
I am pretty happy with what I brought to the stage as a LW, recognizing that there are always improvements that can be made. But I think that I still can squeeze a couple more pounds out of the LW class before I think about jumping up to the MWs. We'll have to see what the off-season brings this year before making any decisions, though.
