Thats the only way I have ever benched. It's the way I learned.  I have not once dropped the bar.  I have seen quite a few drop it even with the thumb.

it is possible to use wrist wraps when benching...they also brace the wrist.

i too bench thumbless. but for the heavier weights i use wraps.

the bar stays rock solid

I have been using the thumbless grip for many years now.  You have more power with that hold.  I do it on all pressing movements.

dummy!  stop doing flat bench after football.  no need for it if there is no money at steak.  machine or dumbbells do well if your chest grows quick.  dummy!

They call it a suicide grip for a reason.  Hope this helps!

DUMBFUCKER!!!!!!!

Why in the hell would you go thumbless, for you guys who do it is a only a matter of time til that happens!!!

I did it for a bit til I seen Paul Key drop 800 plus pounds out of his hands. The only thing that saved his ass was the fact he was doing board presses and the board absorbed the blunt of it.

DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!

I've always done all pressing movements thumbless. I've never even come close to a slip and I've been training for over 15 years now. Of course, I don't go super heavy either, so perhaps that is a factor

I have seen way more people drop the bar with a thumb grip than a thumbless.  I would love to see someone hold 500 lbs or above with just their thumbs when the bar rolls.  It isn't the thumbs it is the wrist unless they are just holding the bar wrong .  If you have strong wrists and hold the bar right thumbless is great.  It is just usually guys who aren't used to it.  I have been benching heavy since 1976 with the thumbless.  I have not even come close to dropping the weight.  Yet I have emceed numerous powerliftng meets where the guy dumped the weight with a thumb grip.
