Wargods Promotions sent along the following press release:

Following its best fight card this past November, up-and-coming mixed martial arts organization Wargods - is looking to out do it self with help from a legend in the sport. KSP a fight promotions company started by the first UFC Champion and Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock… and yes, he will be fighting on the Card. At the moment officials from both organizations are calling this a co-promotion, but a preliminary agreement is in place to make this partnership permanent. The Valentine’s Eve Massacre on February 13th, 2009 will mark the step at making Wargods/KSP an internationally recognized MMA fight promotions company with hopes of cracking the top 5 in the world by the end of the year.

While the official Valentine’s Eve Massacre card has not yet been released you can expect to see UFC Legends along with former EliteXC stars, Wargods/KSP Stars, and the coming out of the Wargoddesses (Wargods Female Division). You can expect the card to be headlined by Ken Shamrock, followed by Wargods Heavyweight Champion Lavar “Big” Johnson, current Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Champion Buddy Roberts, Welterweight phenom Mike Moreno, new reality star and mma stand out Tonya Evinger, the electric Jennifer Tate and the undefeated lightweight sensation Isaac De Jesus.

Also featured on the night’s card will be more than 10 mixed martial arts battles including the next generation of stars such as Ken Shamrocks son, Ryan Shamrock, and Fresno’s Team Buhawe Prodigy, Zoila Frausto. More names will be added to the list in the coming weeks.

Nahh...a paycheck.

Ken also has quite an ego so I'm sure he'd like to get at least one win to salvage his 5 fight loss streak.

kens not gonna turn down any coin, ken imo is not nearly the fighter he once was but i feel since hes still a huge name in the mma world why shouldnt he cash it on it?kens name still has drawing power believe it or not for a man well past his heyday.put yourself in his shoes,if someone offered you a bundle of cash to fight would you turn it down?it aint like kens a multi millionaire and never has to worry about money again, the man still pays child support for 5 kids or so and alamony to his ex wife tina, and im sure hes a high mantainence type of guy.ive always been a ken fan since ufc 1,im glad to see him still makin alittle coin from the sport he helped pioneer, ive always felt ken would have a great career in broadcasting the fights like joe rogan and bas rutten do.kens very well spoken and has a truck load of knowledge about the sport and its fighters.i dont think ken plans on flipping burgers at mcdonalds in afew years, why should he?the man paved the way for guys like chuck, tito, randy and the other guys that have tons of cash and live a very comfortable lifestyle.i do agree though that his chances of getting a serious injury is there,id hate to see his career end like that, ken just wants that paycheck and to pick up a win along the way if he can

I've got respect for Shamrock as well because he was one of the few guys defending MMA back then. When the UFC and other similar outfits were derided as being human cock fights and politicians were trying to get it banned - Shamrock and a few others (Pat Miletich) were going on talk shows and using every opportunity they had to speak out about some of the misconceptions hurled towards MMA. They helped build the sport and keep the flame burning during those dark days.
I remember a Ken Shamrock interview (prompted by McCains crusade) where he was asked how a "brutal" sport like MMA compares to boxing and he, very eloquently, pointed out how boxing was far more brutal because of the repeated head shots and the fact that MMA is far safer because guys can tap out when they get caught in a bad position eliminating further trauma. Not as embarrassing as a boxer quitting (Duran).

Old school guys like Ken find it hard to hang it up because they were so competitive back then that now its hard to accept the reality that their bodies can no longer can take the same punishment and their reflexes are not has sharp anymore.

Of course there is that big paycheck because of his name.  ;)
