unless you entered a mma ring or cage,or even waiting to do battle in a bjj match you couldnt understand what frank was saying, ive done shootfighting matches before as well as grappling tournaments and i felt pretty much what he was feeling.the only difference was hes fighting in front of 15000 fans and im fighting in front of 1000 fans, and hes a superstar and im a nobody in the sport.i used to think that once you got to the level of a mir, tito, randy ect that you dont get nervous or fear anything before a fight anymore, but after talking to tito, randy, mir ect they told me that them feelings are always there, the fear of losing tito told me was what drove him to train so hard in his heyday, tito told me ever since he gassed to frank shammy he vowed he would never gas again in a fight, and ive never seen tito gas since then.to be honest with you imo tito probably had to be in the top 5 as far as the fighter with the best cardio went.i think that was one of tito,s biggest advantages in his title fights, ive always been a tito fan but ill be the first to admit that if it wasnt for his opponant gassing tito prolly would have lost.the belfort fight was an example, belfort got the best of tito in rd 1,rd 2 could have went either way and then vitor gassed in rd 3 and tito finished strong and i believe that swayed the judges toward ortiz.thats why ive always liked the pride scoring system,in pride it didnt matter of you where kicking the shit out of your opponant for the first 3 quarters of the fight,if the guy who was losing came on strong the last 5 or 10 minutes and started really pounding the shit out of the other guy who was winning they gave the win to the guy who finished stronger.thats the fair way to judge a fight.if you saw a street fight and one guy was getting the better of another dude, but all of a sudden the guy whos winning starts breathing hard and the other dudes still fresh and starts kicking the shit out of the other guy, then the cops come and break it up.who would you say was the better conditioned fighter?they might have been equal in skill but if you cardio goes tou are screwed, trust me,gassing is the worst feeling in the world when another guys teeing off on your ass and you cant even keep you hands up to defend yourself and your wind is gone
