Laser pointers at bars
« on: December 21, 2008, 01:58:54 PM »
1)  Last night we went to a bar/restaurant to order some to go food and had a drink while we waited.  A man was using a laser pointer (red dot) to shine on women that came in and also around the bar.  Is this some type of thing he learned from the guy w/the eyeliner and goggles?

2)  Is it true that it is dangerous to have the laser shined directly into your eyeball?

1) Are you cheating on me?  >:(

2) Yes, laser, no matter if its a small beam, can totally/partially destroy your eyes. If you dont believe me, google the news of a tecno party in russia, many ended blind after someone thought it was fun to abuse with lasers.

Ok he is weird.  Yeah getting a laser to the eye can be harmful.  I would have slapped him.

No it hurt much at all if any, as long as you don't stair into it for prolonged period, one little shine won't hurt a bit.  The thing in Russia benz, those people where in that concert for hours and their was fog or something that kept the lasers reflecting off of the top of the place and it went down into the crowd.  Most of the people got their vision back.

Those things are flat out annoying. I know here in Canada they are banned.

The management should have asked him to stop or thrown him out. That is a form of sexual harassment.    >:(

Assuming the gentleman wasn't doing it for security reasons (a stretch based on what has been said but a possibility).

I read in Casino (the book on which the movie is loosely based) that the guy DeNiro played, once he left Vegas, helped his nephew run his restaurant, and he would use a laser pointer to point out waiters who weren't working hard enough.

laser pointers are cool because you can point at things with a laser and see exactly where you're pointing because all you have to do is look for the laser point

I guess the possibility's are endless when someone is pointing a laser pointer at you

Complain to the bar manager next time. It's both A-hole rude behavior and dangerous.

Ha, talking of laser pointers I have a great Christmas story related to this...

my second cousin is roughly 4, he got this dinosaur pen for Christmas and the top part of the pen is a dinosaur head that shoots out a laser in the shape of a dinosaur head out of the mouth.  Dominick goes up to my mom at Christmas dinner and says, look it looks like dinasaur and points the laser on the table.  My mother looks and agrees in "amazement" wow, it does look like a dinosaur.  Dominick then retorts "look inside it looks like a dinasuar too" and proceed to shoot the laser directly into his eyes looking into the mouth of the dinosaur pen at the laser pointer start.  He then told my mother to do the same, she politely declined to look.  Oh and Dominicks mother was in the room when this happened and didn't seem to think there was anything wrong about looking directly into the laser

Smart kid...smart parents....
