I work quite long hours so im pretty shattered before training so i have 2 or even 3 red bulls,is this too much in terms of sugar andf fluid retention?What do you guys who work hard jobs do for pre workout boosts?

Thankfully my job isn't physically hard. I drink 1 on occasion for a boost, but 3 or 4 before every workout seems excessive.

to the point where you feel very lethargic without it

A regular small cup of coffee is stronger than a red bull as far as caffeine. I'd have to drink 10 red bulls to feel any boost.

i was like that for a while - but then I took a few months off caffeine entirely.

Now, I pop 1/2 caffeine on some training days, and I can go 90 minutes nonstop.

RedBull is overpriced and bull shit, I find the people that drink it on a regular basis are pretentious. The only time you will ever see me with one is when I am mixing it with Vodka.

it is working well for me as far as stims go.

Not really, because I'm not gonna shell out $2.99 for a pee colored drink with a mediocre taste so that other people might think I'm cool.

Coffee , cheap and easy to get..

You can also buy straight caffiene pills , but carefull as BigMC says the effect doesnt take long to wear off and you end up feeling like shit without it and have to up the dose for it to have the same effect like you had when you first start.
