KAILUA, Hawaii – President-elect Barack Obama is visiting military families eating Christmas Day dinner at a Marine Corps base near his vacation home in Hawaii.

Obama posed for pictures and greeted enlisted members at Marine Corps Base Hawaii on Thursday. He didn't make formal remarks, but he thanked the men and women who stood to greet him.

US President-elect Barack Obama shares a laugh with US Marine Colonel Robert Rice at Anderson Hall on Christmas day at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kailua, Hawaii December 25, 2008.

As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping. The diners were polite, staying seated at their respective tables and waited for the president-elect to come to them to stand up.....

Obama transition aides say that Obama did not eat with the uniformed men and women -- he ate at his beach home with his family and friends Christmas night.

We don't need his moronic pandering. Sorry 240 we don't like him.

Look at Obama's body language in those pics.  In spite of whatever words were coming out of his mouth, his body language is saying "sorry folks, I'm a two-faced loser who really isn't worthy to be in the same room and eat at the same table as you fighting men and women."

Sorry 240 we don't like him.

I still can't understand why he led republican candidates in fundraising among the troops...

Oh good grief.  He's staying less than a mile from the Marine Corps base (in a 9 million dollar rent-a-house).  He HAD to do a photo op.  You can hardly stay anywhere on this island without being within about 10 miles of a military base.

And regarding the fundraising thing, HH6 already blew that nonsense up.  The military folks voted for McCain.  The fundraising numbers are too small to mean anything.  Completely irrelevant.

The military folks voted for McCain.

3/4 of them did.

25% of our brave men and women chose Obama as their CIC.  Makes you think.

Oh good Lord.  On what planet is 75 percent not an overwhelming margin?

OK, maybe I embellished juuuust slightly.  But there's a definite "I'm not worthy" vibe going on there and rightfully so.  He will have to earn the military's respect, it won't just be handed to him by virtue of his office.

BELTWAY CONFIDENTIAL
Politics from the Nation's Capital President and family on multi-million dollar Christmas vacation in Hawaii
By: Mark Tapscott 12/29/10 5:04 PM

. President Obama and his family are enjoying a delightful Christmas vacation with friends and family in the chief executive's home state of Hawaii.

Nobody questions a president's right or need to take take away from the White House, but an investigation by Hawaii Reporter has turned up some eye-opening information about the costs and other aspects of the Obama get-away.

Just consider these estimates on part of the costs of the latest Obama Hawaii trip:

* Mrs. Obama’s early flight to Hawaii: $63,000 (White House Dossier)

* Obama’s round trip flight to Hawaii: $1 million (GAO estimates)

* Housing in beachfront homes for Secret Service and Seals in Kailua ($1,200 a day for 14 days): $16,800

* Costs for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel: $134,400 ($400 per day for 24 staff) – excluding meals and other room costs

* Police overtime: $250,000 (2009 costs reported by Honolulu Police Department)

* Ambulance: $10,000 (City Spokesperson)

TOTAL COST: $1,474,200

But that $1.47 million figure leaves out a number of signficant costs that simply could not be calculated by Hawaii Reporter:

* Rental of office building in Kailua on canal

Security upgrades and additional phone lines.

* Costs for car rentals and fuel for White House staff staying at Moana Hotel (Secret Service imports most of the cars used here to escort the president).

* Surveillance before the president arrives.

* Travel costs for Secret Service and White House staff traveling ahead of the President.

White House spokesmen insist Obama's vacation expenses are in line with those of previous presidents, which may well be true, but, since the government refuses to disclose many important details about any presidential journey, nobody can know for sure.

There appear to be reasons to suspect the Obamas' trip could have been done for less, according to Hawaii Reporter.

"They could have chosen a less expensive and more secure place to stay such as a beachfront home on the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station – just a two-minute drive away from the Kailuana Place property where they are now," according to Hawaii Reporter.

"The president visits the military base daily to workout, bowl with his kids or enjoy the more private beach there. He also could have stayed at a home 15 minutes away on the beach fronting Bellows Air Force Base as President Bill Clinton did."

But Obama and friends opted instead to secure use of three luxury beachfront places, including the “Winter White House” – or Kailua home that the president rents two weeks a year.

That facility, Hawaii Reporter, noted, normally rents for an estimated $3,500 a day or $75,000 a month, according to the web site Gadling.com.

The latter describes the place as a “7,000 square foot home [that] features 5 bedrooms, 5 ½ bathrooms, a media room with surround sound, a kitchen suited for a master chef, a dining room and great room, a secluded lagoon-style pool with tropical waterfalls and a lavish island spa. The ocean lanai and garden lanai showcase ornate landscaping and stunning views of Kailua Bay and Mount Olomana.”

TV Crew Covering President Claims Mistreatment
Producer Injured When Police Officer Grabs Camera
Daryl Huff KITV 4 News Reporter

HONOLULU -- A public access television crew complained of police mistreatment Thursday, after trying to get a picture of President Barrack Obama.

Just after dawn Wednesday, the three-woman crew for a Big Island public access program called "We Are Change Hawaii" drove up to the barricade near the president's vacation home in Kailua.

Host B.J. Hampton was told they couldn't stay, so she spoke into the video camera as she returned to the car.

"OK, you know it Obama we're OK with you, you OK with us,” Hampton said on the tape, provided to KITV. “We just wanted to get a glimpse of you but we're moving on because this is a private street and we don't want to make anybody nervous. Aloha!” She waved to the Secret Service agents at the barricade as she climbed back into the car.

The crew was video-taping vehicle searches along the potential motorcade route as they left the neighborhood. They noticed a van behind them.

At this point Sherri Kane, who describes herself as an investigative journalist, looked into the camera and said, “Behind us we have the Secret Service following us now so this is kind of exciting.”

Exciting turned to scary after they pulled into a gas station. On their video, a police officer approached the car and said, “Stay in the car. Put that camera off of me.”

Producer Sativa Jones can be heard saying “OK.”

The women said police vehicles and up to five officers surrounded the car, demanded IDs and registration without explanation. Then without warning an officer reached into the car and grabbed Jones’ camera.

“He grabbed it out of my hand and then he slammed it on top of the car,” Jones said. She said the camera was damaged – the automatic lens cover no longer worked.

Jones’ fingers were gashed by the sharp edge on the camera mount. She said the officer appeared shaken by what he'd done and courteously showed her how to complain, writing his name and badge number on a card with contact information for the Honolulu Police Commission.

Kane said other officers on the scene would not let them make a criminal complaint against the officer who grabbed the camera.

“What went down was something that should not happen here in the United States of America,” Kane said. “You have all of these police officers that could be looking at legitimate or people who are really trying to harm the president. Instead, you have so many of them on us.”

Police would not comment on the specific incident but a spokesman said in protecting the President suspicious vehicles are taken very seriously.

Asked if it was legal for police officers to stop someone from videotaping an officer in a public place, the department said citizens are allowed to video in public places.

The Secret Service Office in Honolulu did not respond to telephone and e-mail requests for comment. Copyright 2010 by KITV.com All rights
