Justin Eilers 1978-2008

Former UFC and EliteXC heavyweight contender Justin Eilers was shot to death earlier today in Canyon County, Idaho, in what is being reported as a domestic disturbance turned deadly.

James Robert Malec, believed to be the boyfriend of Eilers mother, was arrested and charged with second degree murder after allegedly shooting Eilers once in the chest in front of a group of relatives after the two were engaged in an altercation.

Paramedics were called to the scene but were unsuccessful in their attempts to stabilize him.

Eilers (19-7-1) was probably most known among casual fans for his three straight losses over a year’s span in the UFC. From February 2005 to February 2006 he dropped three fights — each by first round technical knockout — to Paul Buentello, Andrei Arlovski and Brandon Vera, respectively.

However, Eilers was on a very impressive streak as of late, having won 10 of his past 12 fights. After falling to Antonio Silva at EliteXC ‘Unfinished Business’ back in July, Eilers was targeting a debut at light heavyweight to further refine his improved skill set and once again prove he was ready for the big stage.

This disturbing news comes barely a week after former UFC and WEC competitor Justin Levens was found dead - also by gunshot - in his California home.

Shit happened 15 minutes from my  house. The news is dropping the UFC's name a ton and showing him up here in his fights from 2006. They keep bringing up that he was a fighter and that a altercation occured. One gun shot wound to the chest. Tons of family around when it happened and two kids where in the house. Pretty sad situation.

Former UFC and EliteXC heavyweight contender Justin Eilers was shot to death on Christmas day in Canyon County, Idaho, in a domestic disturbance turned deadly according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.

James Robert Malec, Eilers stepfather, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting Eilers once in the chest in front of a group of relatives after the two were engaged in a verbal altercation.

Paramedics were called to the scene but were unsuccessful in their attempts to stabilize him.

Malec worked as a Canyon County corrections officer and dog handler in the late 1990’s and according to Eilers mother, carried a firearm on a regular basis.

Problems arose when Eilers and his ex-girlfriend began arguing, which further escalated when Malec reportedly ordered Eilers to leave. Eilers refused and one witness reports Eilers challenged Malec to a fight before the shooting took place.

Witnesses also report Malec pointing the gun at Eilers after Eilers had already been shot.

According to the police affidavit, Malec said during his interview: “I don’t know, this happened, they thought I was going to kill everybody.”

In addition to recovering the weapon used in the killing, police discovered large quantities of alcohol inside the home, owned by Malec and Eilers mother. Malec is currently being held on $1,000,000 bond.

no one deserves to get shot for arguing, but maybe the guy was shittin bricks when eilers started raging, eilers aint a small guy and im sure it wasnt a secret that the guy was a cage fighter.alchohol and bad tempers together under one roof sometimes spells trouble,in this case it ended in a man losin his life.dont take this the wrong way anyone but sometimes fighters have an attitude of ill do or say what i want and fugg yous all,ive met prolly every single ufc fighter and except for acouple most where very nice and respectful people.but theres always that 2% that jump off the handle kinda quick and thats when problems can happen.that incident should have never happened but as they say most of the time it takes 2 to tango, imo its always better to be humble and try not to get into fights,im 43 years old and 20 years ago and thought slightly different.now i have a 2 year old son who i love and a wife that i love that rely on me so i cant take any chances anymore, pride has no part in my life anymore.nothing wrong with being proud of your son or your wife,or even of yourself if you accomplished a hard earned goal.but im talking about the bad pride, you know, the kind where a guy gives you the finger in traffic and you want to chase him and settle the score,i gave that up cause these days guys wont hesitate to cap your ass.i love my family to much to risk that, those losers acting tuff on the road or on the street in general are gonna piss off the wrong guy one day and it may cost him his life, its better to stay humble and be cool and if you have to fight make sure its for a self defense type of deal and not to impress your buddies or girlfriend,oh yeah, one other thing, make sure you win ;D

All of these new details are breaking. I guess they were saying that Eilers step-dad told him a while ago if he ever started problems at his house that he would shoot him. I guess his ex-girlfriend, their child, and his mom where all in the kitchen when he got shot. His ex girlfriend called his best friend Brandon Schuey, who is also one of our pro fighters from here, right after he got shot and when he was still alive.  RIP, I will try to update this thread with news I hear locally. They got his step dad on a 1 million dollar bond, not sure if all of this is new to most of you or not..
