Probably one of the reasons he got so massive was that being a diabetic, he had to use insulin. Mixed with the juice, he got good results. Growth Hormone started being used by about 1983 (at least the recombinant kind, pituitary cadaver type may have been used earlier)so he might have done some of that as well. Insulin didn't get widely used till the Dorian era.
