Bands that did a drastic change in style

I was checking to see what happened to a band I liked called Animal Bag.  They had an MTV hit in 1992.  Great Tune.





Then I saw what they were up to now.....a fucking country band playing in a shit bar in a shit town.




Are there any other bands that went from one extreme to the other?

DEF LEPPARD

Early stuff is hard core ACDC clone style kinda stuff (High n Dry).
Later stuff more love song, slushy kinda stuff  >:(

U2, the change they undertook between these two albums is unmatched by mainstream bands:

Desire off of Rattle and Hum:




Even Better Than the Real Thing off of Achtung Baby


These could be done by two entirely different bands.  The stark contrast in style, sound, and structure are staggering.

Went from Peter Green and "Black Magic Woman" to fcuking "Tell me lies".

So many bands take that downward spiral :(
look at all the bands that went fluff when hair metal got popular in the 80's. :-\

i'm not sure if Van Halen counts. Nine Inch Nails was built on changing styles. same with David Bowie and Marilyn Manson.

one that pissed me off was Chimaira. they started off as a pretty decent nu-metal outfit, backwards hats and such, when they did "pass out of existence". then two years later nu-metal was out but the "new wave of american heavy metal" was in with bands like killswitch engage and lamb of god, so Chimaira immediately changes their image and buys some old slayer t-shirts to fit in. pathetic.

most of the fad bands on the late 90's change the style.
