Do you guys think that there is such a thing as a lucky shot?
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:56:23 AM »
Okay so this is something I feel is worth discussing. So you see guys get knocked out in a fight, I.E. Wandy, and then guys say oh it was a lucky shot.....

So my question is do you feel that in a fight there is such a thing as a lucky shot? I mean they are both throwing and aiming to hit the button, when it does how is it lucky? I mean look at Rashad and Chuck. Chuck was trying to get to the button first, but Rashad beat him to the punch... ha-ha. Anyways I heard a lot of people say it was lucky..

Personally I don't believe in the lucky shot, just more on the money then the other guy. Whats your opinion.

It's a lucky punch when you're swinging wildly and one happens to connect, vs throwing a deliberate combo.  Kinda like billiards.  You call a 6 in the corner pocket and sink anther ball...

ever see the 1st fight Arlovski lost to that nutcase crazy guy?  He got KTFO by a lucky punch from a guy swinging wildly.  They could fight 100 more times and it wouldn't happen again...

This. If someone is getting beat, flailing about like an idiot and happens to catch the other guy on the sweet spot with a looping, inaccurate shot, then I consider it lucky.

no such thing as luck in striking in mma or boxing imo,if a person is trying to hit a target whether its with nice technique or lousy technique, and they hit the target, chin, body, legkicks ect, then its not luck.it would be luck if for instance a guy was trying to throw a nice thai kick to another guys leg and the opponant just happens and try,s to shoot in for a double at the exact same time, and the guy who,s kicking catches the opponant on the head and ko,s him even though he was intending to hit the guys leg, that would be luck.if you watch the chuck vs babalu 1,chuck throws a combo and then comes with a legkick to babalus body to finish up the combo, babalu thinks the kicks coming for his head and makes a basic error and ducks into the bodykick and gets nailed right in the chin by chucks intended body kick and hes ko,d.thats luck on chucks part, chuck wouldve most likely beaten him anyway but it just came quicker.bas rutten is an expert at mma/streetfighting and says the same

Agreed, great answer. I have a hard time saying any punch is lucky. Look at so many guys style, chuck, wandy, etc. They all throw looping punches. If you were to say a wild thrown shot was lucky a lot of fights could be won by luck. Ala Houston Alexander/Jardine. I think that when it comes to throwing you have guys who will lower there head and just throw with no concern of getting caught..

whatabout someone throwing a punch without the intention that it will land where it lands and the consequences are different than what he expected, wouldnt that be considered lucky?

Just because it's labeled a "lucky punch/kick" does not necessarily take away from the victory.  You're Chuck example is a good one.  Lucky for Chuck that Babalu ducked when he did resulting in a fight ending KO.  But, Chuck would have likely won anyway.

My Arlovski example is one in which the lucky punch should take away from the victory.

I disagree with you bro ..If there is a man in the ring with you ..You throw a hard punch, and it lands ..It's not lucky.. You meant to hit that person with a punch you threw at him ..So where;s the luck in that ?

It's one of those issues that get lost in translation.. there is such a thing as a 'lucky shot' to an extent, either way most guys try to hit the button most of the time when they're throwing at the head /face what constitutes a lucky shot I  think it the guy throwing closing his eyes and just going for it, instead of it being a planned direct shot.
