$500-600 stimulus checks to individuals didn't work to stimulate the economy last time and there is zero reason to think the result will be different this time.
Giving rebate checks to people who don't pay federal taxes is also a bad idea, those people will not provide the kind of economic stimulation we need.

A few General ideas:
Cut corporate taxes (we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world).  Make some tax cuts permanent to boost confidence, inject $ where its needed but with mandatory oversight, transparency and direction; cut trade deficits; stop pushing welfare/dependence programs; handle illegal immigration and provide a path to citizenship for immigrants who are productive; invest in infrastructure and new technology; increase nuclear power; change the culture of entitlement the younger generation has.

your pretty mcuh just promoting the same ideas which bush and co have been preaching.

"trickle down economics" is a nice theory. in the real world it doesnt work.

listen to alan greenspans last testimony. he came to the conclusion, finally, that the free market is flawed and trickle down doesnt work. why? because in that economic theory, the issue of the tendencies of humans is not taken into account.

the idea is thatless money payed by the top, equals less money payed by the bottom.

NO.

doesnt work that way, not with HUMANS at the top.

when the top pay less, that means they make more. it doesnt mean the bottom pays less.

The only problem with infrastructure spending is that its more of a mid-long term investment...but still wise.  I'm sure that Barney Frank has good and bad ideas, the financial bailout in that form was a bad idea.  The conservative repubs and blue dog dems tried to warn us back in the fall.

I will wait to see the details of the Obama proposal but so far these bailouts have been an uter failure and waste of our tax money.  Bottom line is that we need to stop the excessive gov spending and get the f out of Iraq!  That war cost us greatly.  For those that said we went in for oil, we've seen no benefit.

They'll spend it.

They'll run to McD, walmart, target, the mall, MetroPCS, the Ford dealer, etc etc.

If someone doesn't pay income taxes, they're broke bitches.  You give them 500 bucks, IT AIN'T going under the mattress.  If they could do that, they wouldn't be broke to begin with.  It's going to be spent quickly.

Run to a Ford dealer? For what?

Thanks for a civil criticizm.  The debate is good.  There is no one right answer.

There were many other ideas rather than trickle down economics in my post.  Also, Bush did few of the things I posted.  He spent like a crazy liberal.  The key to a strong economy IMO is a strong middle and upper middle class with an environment where business thrives and jobs are created for all.  That definitely doesn't happen from the bottom up.  People with $ should be given incentives to spend and invest.  I find great fault with multimillionaires and billionaires and creating more of them and I understand the progressive tax system we already have.

Corporate taxation is even more important than income taxation.  We have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world and some wonder why companies move out of the US?

to buy a car.  People might get their $500 check and they might to put a down payment on a car.  If you give checks to 200 million people, and even 1% of them buy a car, you just sold 2 million cars.

Maybe but I highly doubt it.

Why don't you take it one step further and give a tax credit for buying a car from Ford, or whomever.  That way you control what the money is spent on.  Again, the stimulus checks didn't help last time and there's no reason they would this time.  We must change the systems that have failed.  Many of the lower income people I know used the stimulus check to pay bills, not buy cars.

in the end, the only real "change" that occured is that a black man is now in charge.

Too bad people are now going to figure out that it doesnt mean he 's more or even as qualified/capable/apropriate for the job as a white man...

It was all about electing A BLACK MAN for the fun of it and nothing else. Everything that has been said about the stupidity of those who voted for him just because he's black has already been verified and it will only get worse, cause soon people will understand that BECAUSE he's black he's LESS qualified for the job than a white man.

What's wrong with having a black man in charge?
