Obese Americans now outweigh the merely overweight...
« on: January 10, 2009, 10:41:24 AM »
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of obese American adults outweighs the number of those who are merely overweight, according to the latest statistics from the federal government.

Numbers posted by the National Center for Health Statistics show that more than 34 percent of Americans are obese, compared to 32.7 percent who are overweight. It said just under 6 percent are "extremely" obese.

"More than one-third of adults, or over 72 million people, were obese in 2005-2006, the NCHS said in its report.

The BMI is a pretty accurate measure.

Way too many fatties roaming about.

Yes you would but take into account that most people who're that heavy are fat fucks. Very few people are considered overweight due to muscle mass, and most people have enough common sense to not judge a muscular guy who's very lean as "fat" or "overweight". Do you understand?

The BMI is horrible.  Doesn't take into account BF vs lean muscle. Garbage "science."

What do "most people" have to do with this study titcake?
...
Do you honestly believe these studies done on statistics decypher muscular people from the fatties? no. It's a generalization.

Do you understand?

Who cares?   I'm not fat.  My wife isn't fat.  Most of my friends aren't fat.  What do I care if Dave Mirza and his trailer-park ilk are getting fatter?

Regardless the study is accurate, there arent many people in america who are clinically obese due to the weight of muscle mass

omfg. Yes, they're not obese to me or you, but by 99% of standards out there which these type of studies follow, they can be classified as over weight, which is why these types of studies don't measure lbm of every individual. It's a matter of height followed by what you weigh. holy shit.

There aren't enough "muscular" people roaming about to be giving added statistical weight. Even if people are muscular, they're about 190 lbs in the 5'10" range and that's tops, anything else is an outlier. You draw a sample of 100 randomly, about 30 would be fatties, and probably close to 50% would be slightly overweight, and maybe 1-2 guys that are muscular with good physiques who shouldn't be grouped in with the rest, but they are not common enough.

My nintendo Wii tells me that I am obese (by BMI standards).  Maybe it's right?
