Milk prices have gone back down. Why is whey still so expensive? >:(

Probably because people will still pay for it.

Just buy cottage cheese instead.
Fat Free Kroger Brand in Pints ( 90 grams of protein each )
I find I have to add way too much stuff to whey to make it palatable

It won't drop because their ultra heavy anti-soy/anti vegetable based protein campaign has been very effective.  Bodybuilders are now convinced they will grow tits if they take anything other than whey protein.  There is no competition so it probably won't drop much until people start using more and more alternative cheaper protein sources.

Actually, I find casein to be more expensive than whey, which is a shame, because I'm gonna have to implement casein into my diet soon to prevent muscle breakdown. (I'm finishing my winter bulk soon.) Vitamin Shoppe brand whey is pretty cost-effective.

It takes a bit for the companies to see that drop.  There is no doubt the prices have dropped.  You have to consider the volume companies have to purchase in.  A lot of times rates are negotiated so a company knows the price will be steady over a 6-12 month period of time.  I imagine you'll begin to see cheaper prices in about 4 months.  It will take that long for the "new" reduced cost protein to get onto the shelves.

Cool. Hopefully the price will go down.

Well, you could get some cans of evaporated milk, which I've been doing over the last couple of months. The "Great Value" brand (Wal-Mart) cost $0.86 where I shop. Each can five you 24 grams of protein (19 grams of which is casein). You may have to get used to the taste, though.

You are talking about the 5lb.  Yes, Optimum Whey GOLD standard protein is around that price. They have a Classic protein which is cheaper, but you dont see that around as much.

Last year from January to September, prices of whey went up 2-3 times, each about $3.  It was crazy, and being in a supplement distributor business, seeing the prices being passed on, we had no choice.

However, it the last three months, prices have come down, and we are just seeing the prices come down in Jan and Feb. Hopefully, more will follow.

Optimum though, has not taken a price decrease, but Champion did.

Optimum (back in the day) used to be the good old reliable cheap whey that was still a pretty good and consistent product. It's a shame to see they've moved and are no longer the 'budget' protein. Their 10lb. bags of whey used to go for like $50

Another alternative is Body Fortress Whey protein, sold at Wal-Mart. The 2.19-lb jugs cost $13-$14 each. So, two fo them will run you $26-$28. And, it has 26g per serving as opposed to EAS' 23g per serving.

yeah we need gas to get around though...if we REALLY wanted to we could boycott the protein-it would suck but it could happen...cant really do that with gas...you think its just supply and demand? or does anyone know of another reason why its going up?

Im guessing they changed it now, I haven't bought EAS in about 5-6 years cause it used to be so godamn sugary tasting.
