I dont like it.I dont want to serve others.,I want to take care of my family and myself.FRANKLY,i COULDNT CARE LESS ABOUT THE NEXT GUY.We pay our taxes,we give 10% to charity THATS ENOUGH.Dont tell me that I now have to serve others or my kid needs to do community service as part of his schooling.Typical dems,they will force you to care,even if you dont.

I dont really mind it, although i have pretty much the same mentality of billy but i see the value in it...However if we all need to serve then assistance programs such as welfare etc...need to be cut or at least severly cut in order to assure the ppl that are serving that they ppl they are giving service to arent taking advantage.

Community service is excellent but it should not be forced upon kids without some incentive or school credit.  The idea of having mandatory action is somewhat scary.
Many of us do care about the next guy but only after our family and friends.  Thats the way it is.  If Obama is pushing all sorts of programs and benefits only for the poor, middle class people are again going to be shit on.

The more people depend on gov't subsidies the more democrats get elected because republicans are known to try to stop things like this....and the repubs are thought to be the bad guy.

I think the whole purpose of the community service program is to get kids involved in their societies.

If they are involved in the societies, that might actually lead to a more spiritual and bonded society.

I don't exactly know what Obama has in mind, but I would personally like to see this shit in my country, I think it would lead kids to respect the elders, and to bring a lot of good values back.

I'm not talking about social conservatism, but actually just values of showing respect.

I think kids, especially kids from "bad homes", need to spend time around decent grown ups a lot more.

And not just the grown ups that they see in the schools.

This might just be that chance to find a role model.

Like I said, this might not be anything like what I vision it to be.

I see it as something that can bond societies together.


And I definitely see this as something targeted at youths and kids only.
