Circuit City - good deals!
« on: January 18, 2009, 06:25:02 AM »
Did anyone else go to Circuit City yesterday or today?  The company is going out of business and they are liquidating everything!  As of yesterday, most things (big ticket electronics, memory cards/sticks, etc) were 10% off.
CDs and DVDs were 20% off.  Cables were 30% off.  They will continue to raise the percent off until everything is sold.  But the longer you wait the fewer items will be on the store shelves.

I went to two CC stores yesterday.  The first had a huge line outside (100+ people) and they were letting people in little by little.  The second store had no line, but things were flying off the shelves.

I bought a new flatscreen TV, a DVD player, and a memory card for my digital camera.

If you want a new digital camera this is an excellent time to buy.  They have a huge inventory of makes and models. Digital cameras today are small, compact, have 8 megapixels –-some for well under $100 and most can even film movies in addition to taking photos.  I almost wish I needed a new camera.  Hell, I may go back and buy one anyway.  Just think of all the great pix you could take at your next bodybuilding show/expo (see this thread is related to bodybuilding after all).  :D

If you are serious about getting a digital camera (at any price point) and need some reviews, info, or education check out the "Reviews/Previews" and "Camera Database" tabs at http://dpreview.com/

I used this website when I bought my camera years ago and it was very helpful.  They even have information/reviews on old discontinued cameras.

Remember, you don't need more than problaby 6 megapixels for most uses!

A Nikon D40 is a great start.

True, but when is the last time you bought a camera?  These days, it is hard to find a new camera that has fewer than 7 megapixels.  8 megapixels is the standard in even the cheapest cameras now. 10 megapixels is considered an upgrade or high end.

Lots of shit was supposedly 70% off but it looked like it was the same price as other stores. They just said MRSP was XXXX and made the sale price to be some fantastic deal. I'm going to check out the other Circuit City when I get back in town.

went there last night to find out what the status of my TV warranty was going to be and there were a decent amount of people but the store wasn't really packed, the guy there said that 10 percent on tv's was as low as they were going to go and if they didn't sell them they were going to sell them at auction to other businesses, he said that particular store was closing in March.

I've been tracking the Samsung LN52A650 for about a year.  Started around 3 grand, I figured I'd buy it when it got to around 1,700.

Online retailers currently carry it for $1850-$2000.  I've seen it at Circuit City for as low a $2,000 in the past.

Yesterday, I went in and TVs were 10% off original prices.  The only one they had was the floor model at an additional 10% off.  The trouble is, the list the original at $2,499 so the two 10%s off make it $2,000 for a floor model.

I didn't see many good deals that couldn't be beat online, and that includes shipping.

Oh Brother ::) Considering Obama proposed a TRILLION DOLLAR spending spree that makes Bush's spending look like a yard sale, you might want to reconsider that little cartoon.

In 2 more days........We're f**ked.

Yeah, I'm expecting another price drop the week before the SuperBowl.  A lot of TVs prices drop that week.

the douchebag at the store was trying to be tough about the price not dropping any further but he's full of shit, wait until March and the prices will be down by another 25-30 percent.

The reality is nothing is 70% off yet.  As I said, right now the stuff you really want (electronics) is 10% off.  Over the next few weeks, they will increase to 20%, then 30% then 40% etc. to move merchandise.  If you wait for 70% off, everything you want will be gone.  In effect, the store is making customers play "chicken" with each other; this is typical for stores that go out of business.  Linens & Things did the same thing last year as they were going out of business.

People will settle for a smaller discount (10% or 20%) on things they really want because we know that the longer you wait for a deeper discount the fewer things will be available.

I didn't go there expecting to find a great deal anyway. I was just headed to get sushi and the big fliers caught my attention. I heard about CC in the news but doubted that anything, especially their TVs and good digital SLR cameras were actually 70% off.

Did a drive-by, but my new Samsung was priced cheaper at Fry's, so I got it there.

Plus, I got to play Rock Band 2 on the Wii with my friend.   ;D

like he said if you're waiting for 70% off you aren't going to find anything, everything will be gone by then, it's just human nature, people hear "Going out of business sale" and they flock to the stores in droves.

Dude come on, Bush borrowed ridiculous amounts of money. Not to mention the little socialist stitch called "bailout" at the end of his presidency.

You are nothing more than the result of right wing propaganda indoctrination.
