arild "the hulk" haugen
« on: January 19, 2009, 07:06:16 PM »
He quit WSM to try boxing?  I guess we will find out if the old argument is true if these guys can just obliterate a fighter with one punch...

Anyone heard anything more about this?

And how the fuck do you get this strong at 22 years old?  He easily beat mariusz in a couple events.

Dude was amazing in his heat, came dead last in the final though. Wonder what happened, he could do the stones in 12 seconds, although more like 16 in official comp. Why would he quit? Fucking pussy. He'll be about as good at boxing as bob sap.

I thought Haugen was excellent in WSM - not sure what happened to him in the final but I remember him doing the atlas stones faster than anyone. Remember, he's only 22, he's in the same sort of category as Kevin Nee - strong as hell for their ages but with a bit more experience they'll be up there vying for the top spots in years to come. There's some good guys coming through the ranks right now.

his reasoning for quitting strongman was that there is no money to be made and the only respect you get is from the couple hundred other strongman competitors out there following the same dream.  Everyone else treats you like a circus sideshow (true) and your entire day consists of cramming 6000-8000 cals in your mouth, inbetween front double biceps poses for people to take a cell phone pic with.

Amazing at his age.  Kevin Nee also for a guy that young to do so well.  Very impressive pushing the 300 lb overhead oversized grip axle press he looked incredibly strong and controlled the weight.  I was also impressed with Brian Shaw for someone that qualified for WSM after only 7 months of training that's unheard of.  He will be something to see in the next few years if he sticks with it.

Arild Haugen is leaving strongman because of the money, sure, but also his health. Apparently he was having alot of trouble in WSM and had to pull back.

Kevin Nee is having some of the same health problems (not as serious) plus injuries.

Brian Shaw has been doing strongman and PL for some time now. I first watched him do a demo almost 3 years ago.

he's nowhere near as strong as this guy. :D

So I went down to Florida for vacation....had a great time in Disneyworld...

Went to my parent's house for thanksgiving dinner.  My stepmother wanted me to move a landscaping rock for her that they had delivered a week before.  The rock weighed 590 pounds according to the reciept from the place they bought it from.  Not only did I manage to lift this rock off the ground, i was able to carry it about 30 feet from the curb where it was dropped off to the garden next to the driveway.

No belt, no lifting straps, no chalk.

590 pound stone....an 800 lb deadlift can't be that far away.

suck on that haters  8)

Watching Haugen do the Atlas stones is ridiculous. He explodes them off his chest in one quick movement, even the heaviest one.

he looks older than Brewer at 22.

anmial.
