Lonnie Teper's mom has passed away
« on: January 23, 2009, 05:50:26 PM »
Lonnie's mom has passed over.

Lonnie had been caring for his sick mom for some time.  However, he never let it interfere with his journalistic commitments to Ironman; nor did it affect his ability to MC.

To the fans of this sport, it is time to say a prayer for Lonnie's mom and the loving family that now have to live with the grief of a lost family member.

Lonnie only left his mom's bedside when he had pressing Ironman Magazine deadlines to fulfill.

Other than that, a devoted and committed Lonnie was there for her...until the sad and unfortunate passing.

Lonnie's mom was a true matriarch.

She is deeply missed by the entire Teper clan.

God bless.

Lonnie and i have always had our differences of opinions in regards to this so-called sport.

Yes, we haven't always got on!  However, my heart goes out to him in this very difficult time.

He would always speak so highly of his mom;  ''She had an amazing sense of humour''  he would say.

Stay strong Lonnie!

We may never see eye to eye in regards to  this industry.  However, i respect you for the love and devotion you displayed towards your mom.

Peace and RIP to you Mrs. Teper.

I thought Lonnie's mother's last name was Hearn?

Losing a mom has got to be the second worst thing one can experience (losing a child being the first). :'(

You have never met Lonnie you stupid toolbag, I think you need to up the dosage or at least talk to your therapist about something stronger. If you speak with such disdain about someone's family tragedy then you really deserve to be bashed, perhaps gutted or at least squashed. Your day will come and you will not know where it all went wrong.

In terms of Pro Bodybuilding, Lonnie and i have always been philosophically opposed.  And yes, i have been quite critical of his bland editorial style.

With that said, i respect Lonnies strong connection to family.  He has proved this over and over.

Again, condolences to the Teper family for their loss.

And Lonnie, when you decide it is time to get back in the trenches, i will be there!

Peace to a brother in iron!

LT's mom passed away Wednesday evening around 11pm.  We IMed about an hour later, around midnight, about the actualy realization of his Mom passing away so close to his emceeing the 20th anniversary of the Ironman Pro.   LT was here yesterday, and will be emceeing tonight too.

His mother has been sick for a long time, she passed away a month shy of her 88th birthday.  When someone is in pain, the passing away is not something you don't know wont happen any time, but a reflection of who she was. It is hard to see someone who is at their life's end but just hanging on.  I feel she is in a better place now, away from pain.

LT's mom's funeral will be sometime next week, a small ceremony had she wanted it that way.   Some of your comments are not cool, you don't know the people around, and just hear tids and bits.  Pathetic.

His mother would have wanted him to be here, and I want him here. He is a great emcee, and I am glad he is going to be here in stage.  Incidently, tonight, they will pay a tribute to Kenny too who passed away a month or so ago.

Dude, some of us are friends here. Some of us do care for people's familys, and discuss events going on.

Give it is rest.

RIP.

i agree Ron, making light of this situation is in very bad taste, Hank is an asshole, my condolences to Lonnie and his family, i lost my mom 15 years ago and anyone who has been through that type of situation can share some empathy with Lonnie and what he must be dealing with.

From LT's blog on Ironman Magazine...

It was with a heavy heart that I emceed the 20th Anniversary of the IRON MAN Pro Saturday at the Los Angeles Convention Center this past weekend. Less than three days earlier, I got the dreaded phone call (at 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday) from hospice, informing me that my mother had lost her long and courageous battle with emphysema.

She had, hopefully, a peaceful death, passing away in her sleep at the Villa Scalibrini Retirement and Special Care facility, located in Sun Valley, California.

She had first moved into The Villa in February, 2002, where she eventually earned the moniker  “The Miracle Woman”; there were countless times over the past few years when I thought she would lose her battle with the chronic lung disease (the condition strikes mostly smokers) that destroys the tiny air sacs in the lungs.

A longtime smoker, Mom was forced to quit when she entered the Villa. But, as anyone who has dealt with the illness knows, it only gets worse with time, although there might be brief periods of improvement.

Mom would have turned 88 on February 23; our birthdays were a week apart (mine is on February 16). Her burial will take this Friday, at 11 a.m., at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery, in Mission Hills, California.

She requested that her maiden name, Marie G. Bruno (she had been known as Marie Hearn for the past 30 years), be placed on her headstone, and was specific with the Mortuary, as I found out last Thursday, that she did not want a special service, or an open casket. Fortunately, I will be allowed a final viewing of the only parent I’ve had since my father died when I was 17.

Mom would have asked for nothing less than for me to continue on with my duties at the IRON MAN over the weekend and, even though I wondered how I was going to get through the contest, having to deal with it ended up being a blessing in disguise.

The event forced me to focus on the present, instead of moping around (I am her only child; I found out that I have a half-sister, who lives in Arizona, on my father’s side, in 2005) and dwelling on the sad occurrence instead of concentrating, as she would have wanted me to, on the present and future. I know she was watching, proudly, when John Balik shocked me with the special “Master Emcee” honor for being at the podium every year since the contest began in 1990. She always did remind me of how I loved to talk.

have been overwhelmed by how kind people have been with their condolences in person, via email, phone calls or texts. A special “thank you” to Shawn Ray, who started a thread about my mother’s passing on the forums at musculardevelopment.com last week, and to Dan Solomon and Bob Cicherillo, who mentioned her death during their live webcast of the show on Bodybuilding.com.

I know you’re in a better place now, Mom. You had suffered far too long. I miss you dearly already but will see you again in the future. God bless all that you did for me.

Condolences to LT; one of the truly nice guys in bodybuilding.

It's nice to see Hank finally got what he deserved.  He hates bodybuilding anyway, so he shouldn't feel too bad in time out.
