Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

This is funny.  Now Obama and his party have their panties in a bunch over an entertainer.  Jay Leno is next.   ::)

Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition
Posted: 12:20 PM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments.
(CNN) – In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world — the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks — sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

This is a bad move strategically and its reactive instead of responsive.

He's giving RUSH more power by acknowledging he has influential power.

It would have been better to just ignore him publicly and undermine him between the lines.

Precisely.  They are empowering him.

did the reps start a petition against them?

yes they did.

Congress Votes to Condemn MoveOn.org

Last week the Senate voted to condemn MoveOn for their attack against General Petraeus. (Roll call and text of Resolution is at that link)

Today, the House followed suit in a vote of 341 voting to condemn MoveOn.org, 79 voting against denouncing them and 12 that didn't vote.

Introduced by repub John Boehner.

A vote of 341 to 79 is a bipartisan vote.

Both sides look dumb when they do this but I think the motivation is the same either way.

The Repugs thought they were defending Petraeus and the Dems feel they are defending Obama.

If they really want to help Obama they should line up and pass the legislation that he wants and stop with the show boating

It's pretty ironic because the libs claim to be all about civil liberties and freedom of speech and tolerance and acceptance and diversity, blah blah blah etc. etc. etc.  Yet here they are wanting to silence a voice of dissent.  Yet another example of their hypocrisy and self-delusion.

Liberals hate free speech.

At least Conservatives make no bones about it--they don't put on this bullshit front like they're all tolerant and accepting of stupid points of view.  Like when that idiot MTV reporter asked Newt the "Boxers or briefs?" question that had previously been posed to Bill Clinton, Newt replied, "That's a stupid question and you're stupid for asking it." 8)

Wasnt' it clinton and Tipper Gore who tried to censor rap music and books???

Isnt it colleges that ban conservative speakers and throw things at them?

Isnt it liberal college professors and students who push "hate speech codes" on campuses?

Isnt it liberals who try to shut down all debate over alleged "climate change"????

You want more examples?

"If they really want to help Obama they should line up and pass the legislation that he wants and stop with the show boating"

No.  Please look at the details of the bill.  This is supposed to be a stimulus only bill but Pelosi and others cramed it full of their pet projects.  Its insulting.

The House Democrats' bill includes $335 million for sexually transmitted disease education and prevention programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  How the hell is this economic stimulation?  And they wonder why we can trust the gov!

Newt comments at (of all things) dinner honoring people who stood up for free speech:
http://www.observer.com/node/36491

McCain - one example would be the granny who was given a citation for trying to wear a shirt that said McCain = Bush (still not clear why McCain who was running as a Repug for Prez would have a problem being compared to the current Repug Prez)

Bush - setting up the ironically (or tragically) named"free speech zones" when he traveled so that people who opposed his view were quarantined from events

you know that all sorts of shit (not necessarily pork) gets put into larger bills.   I don't know how that 335 million is going to be spent.  Isn't it possible they would be creating new jobs.  It is afterall an education program.  Maybe they will be hiring teacher and writers and other people
