The big problem for republicans now...
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:32:58 PM »
The bailout if going to pass, even though the republicans voted unanimously against it.

What if... and I mean what if... the recession we're seeing was pretty much due to major lack of world confidence, and that shady-ass manipulation of oil prices.  They F'ed everything up for a year.  A lo of companies all cut the fat (which they should have done long ago) all at once.  Houses were over-valued by 18%, and yes, that was corrected all at once.

What if it a recovery begins this year?

Obama and the Dems just giftwrapped a stimulus bill that will cut taxes for 95% of Americans - and what if things happen to get better - even completely unrelated?

Imagine entering the 2010 or 2012 elections as a Republican who voted AGAINST this stimulus package, and the economy is better?

Imagine entering the 2010 or 2012 elections as a Republican who voted AGAINST giving ppl back more of their money, in an environoment in which people will believe that helped fix things.

If the economy improves even a little bit, Obama is going to look like the Savior for this plan, and Dems are going to be on easy street in the 2010 election.

Well, the economy won't so that isn't a big concern.

I dunno.  It was weird that 210k jobs were all cut once, with 70k happening on the same day.  A lot of fat-cutting at once.

If a lot of the recession we're in was due to the speculators in oil and other markets - and that has stopped... and if a lot of it was due to the world hating/mistrusting Bush, and Obama's in there kissing ass all over the world to undo the hatred for us...

Who knows.  The point was, IF things get better, this Jan 2009 Stimulus package that went to the PEOPLE and not the BANKS, is going to take all the credit.  This "I voted against it" tag by the republicans would be just as damaging to their re-election bids as their votes for Iraq were.

For most Americans, I think that would be a good problem to have. The Republicans? Not so much.
