BJ vs GSP (first fight) on UFC Unleashed
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:04:19 PM »
Just watched the first fight again.  Aside from the eye poke and the uppercut in the first round, BJ did nothing the whole fight.  It seemed as if he was just trying to maintain.  He lost the fight easy.  GSP took him down at will in the second and third rounds, with a few good slams, and BJ was never able to get top position or really use his black belt.  And GSP looked nothing like the GSP we've seen in the last few fights.  If that is the BJ that shows up, it's going to be a short fight.

lol,i guess blocking punches with his face was gsp,s gameplan in the first round, cause he
was sure doing a great job of eating bj,s fist in the 1st rd.its true that octagon control counts as far as the ufc scoring goes, but if your gonna take a guy down you should have to make the guy you took down pay or else its kinda like a grappling match and shouldnt really count all that much, who the hell here likes a lay and pray match?.it seemed liked gsp was happy to just use his better wrestling to try and control bj and sit in his guard, cause gsp did no damage at all.lets be honest here for a minute and forget the ufc scoring,if you where coming out of a club and 2 guys where throwin down and after afew minutes the bouncers broke it up,and one guys face was bloodied up and the others not a scratch, honestly now,who would you think won that fight?if you answered the guy with a bloody face lost your being honest,if not your just bullshitting cause you know where im going with this.but now picture abunch of people telling you right after that fight that the guy bloodied up really won cause he was on top of the other guy more of the fight, would you agree?or say regardless the guy with the bloody face got beat?since when did where your fighting from, standing, top ground, bottom ground ect dictate if you won or lost a fight in the street.i always look at the end result in a fight, damage to either guy and make my decision.after all in a fight the objective is to hurt the other guy before he hurts you, could you imagine what gsp,s face would have been like if penn was hitting him bare knuckle?just food for thought people,i admit im biased towards bj since hes been a fav of mine since he won the blackbelt division in 2000 at the mundials.i remember when he got his blue belt from ralph gracie back in 96 or 7,i said to my boys that this kid is gonna be great,i never had no idea he would be great in mma also.ive met gsp, rolled with gsp,got destroyed by gsp, lol,he is a great guy also and hes a true champion imo,may the best penn win,i mean man win ;)

I agree. They are both different fighters nowadays.

GSP went forward. BJ Penn?

GSP like I said before will give BJ his first of two consecutive losses.

I just got done watching last nights episode and was shocked when BJ told Zahabi to lay in bed and fuck himself. Totally no class whatsoever and I hope BJ gets humiliated because that is what he needs. Funny thing is Troy talks shit about the fighters GSP is training with. Saying BJ can beat them all.

Troy Mandaloniz? I think he should change his name from Rude Boy to just Boy.

that's what mixing martial does, it's control, it's dominance, final

who the hell here likes a lay and pray match?

that's the problem, right there, it's not about who boos and who cheers

Really? then GSP sure did beat the shit out of his own face then.

He was cut on the INSIDE of his eye in the 1st round.  He could see shit.  He could have taken a knee and been given time to recover.  Instead he chose to fight on.  Once his corner cleaned up his eye, he came back and dominated rounds 2 & 3.  Why can't you accept that ???

Okay...let's throw out the UFC rules for the sake of discussion.  No rounds, time limit or illegal strikes, etc.  GSP would have been able to outlast Penn, gas him out and soccer kick him into oblivion.

Their next fight is a 5 rounder.  We'll see if BJ's underwater bolder sprints did anything for his cardio...lol.

I love to think that Dana absolutely hates this guy.  Even Dana thinks he is lazy, and knew it was par for the course that BJ was having a vacation three weeks before his fight in Kona.  If he wasn't one of the naturally most talented fighters in the world, dana would cut this guys contract.  You see the guys BJ trains with? GSP has Cerrone, Marquardt, Evans.  And BJ has Troy...  And his brothers who Keith claims are world class athletes, well above the talents of the guys GSP trains with.  PLEASE!!!  I hope BJ either taps or just gets pounded into hamburger, disrecpectful, arrogant jerk.

I couldn't decide who to root until I saw the show.  BJ came off like an insecure little prick.

I've just started following this awesome sport, but I've already decided that BJ Penn appears to be an asshole, while GSP is a classy guy who is perfect to destroy him  :)

At the same time lets throw out there is no hitting of a guy going up for a lay up in basketball, Oneal would kick ass.  Dumb statement by you.  And if you have never done the Boulder Sprints then you have no idea how hard it is and what it does for your cardio.  It is awesome!

Settle down NoBalls you aren't fighting are you?  We all can't be as talented and tough as you.  Of course BJ trains with crappy guys.  Of course no others fighter fro around the world come to his gym and train.  It is evident that you know it all and BJ has only been lucky all these years and he is shitty since he has fought in what 5 weight classes and not once got knocked out and in fact did great in every fight.  But, then again he is no you.  You are the best and only you can talk down to a guy who has done more in the sport than you have done in anything.  It is funny people like you who always put down people who are obviously a million times better than you are and has proven that for years.  It is amazing how lucky he is isn't it.  Just think how good he would be if he actually trained with somebody good  and didn't just go surfing all day.  But in spite of that he still beats the shit out people, has millions of fans around the world, is known as one of the best fighters of all time, has a higher payday than just about anyone else.  Amazing how all this is due to luck and not training.  People like you amaze me. ::) ::)

i may be the only person here that thinks this but i believe bj may beat gsp. don;t get me wrong gsp is a great great fighter but i just have a feeling about this one. bj will hurt him again. being a 5 rounder i think gsp has the advantage in the later rounds obviously but if bj catches him early its all over..man could you imagine if bj trained hard with world class fighters what he would be like

of course there's that possibility... I think everyone agrees that BJ is a real threat and he'll probably hurt GSP somehow... I think what most people believe is that GSP is very resilient, will be able to take the hurting and will dominate BJ... it is the classical scenario with GSP anyway, he's able to work under pressure...

Real resilient when he fought Serra.  Tapped to strikes from the top.  BJ didn't tap when Hughes had him in a cross side crucifix and was dropping elbows and fists......

Is this the biggest fight in MMA history like BJ penn claims??

I think the last time i was so looking forward to fight was the Fedor - Crocop matchup.

dudes,
first off, this is a business. Dana wants to pump this fight up as much as possible, hence the primetimes. I might be off, but i think all the smack talk was mostly a request from Dana. The very last thing Bj said was, i talked alot and I picked a good fight for me. And, its a fight, confidence/intimidation do play a part. so personally, i don't read too much in to all the hype. I know Dana will be routing for Bj, since it'll set up penn/bj III.
secondly, I  watched the first fight as well. and aside from the take downs, GSP did nothing to him. It is the UFC, not a streetfight, so he did what he should have to edge the decision, probably the advice from his corner. Gsp is known to listen to his corner, and was getting his face beat standing up. GSP's ground game is great and nullified anything Bj through at him.
lastly, they both have changed/grown as fighters. I expect to see a good fight.

ps. my guess: BJ second round by submission due to choke. :-*
